laser treatments for over 5 years; advice needed

i have been getting the laser hair removal for over 5 years; and i still have hair.
the first doctor used candella gentlLase on me for almost 4 years with no success;
then the second doctor used candella gent Yag and gentlLase alternatively for over a year and still i have hair all over my face. the whole chin and cheecks area.
now they are not as coarse anymore; but they are there. u can see them and feel them.
last week i went to the third doctor and she used sciton clearscan laser. surprisingly it didn’t hurt at all; and there was no downtime. no redness or tenderness. it’s been 6 days and the hairs are not shedding; still intact and hurts to pull them. so i think the treatment didn’t work at all. also that was the most expensive session so far ($371). i am not sure what to do anymore. i want to ask her for a do over; or my money back.
at the same time; i am wondering if i should give it a try.
any advice or feedback?
any recommendation for a good and affordable place in bergen county, nj (or around that area).
i am faired skin, although from the middle east. my hair started coarse; but now its fine but not too light.
thanks much

You’re being taken for your money and should stop seeking laser clinics. Laser ONLY works on dense coarse hair. You need electrolysis for finer hair, whether it’s dark or not.

how much does an electrolysis session cost; and does it hurt/
any recommendation for an electrologist in new jersey area?
thanks

when gentlelase and gentleyag were used on me; the doctor told me he used the highest setting in the machine.
and yes it used to hurt a lot after a treatment; and my skin used to be red for few days; also after the treatment i smelled the burned hair and the hair shed after few days.

i dont know the setting for the new machine; sciton clearscan. although i assume it was very low; because i didn’t feel it at all. the hair is still intact and didn’t smell any burning.

i called a new office today; and they have the Ellipse IPL machine; i am not familiar with this; do you think this will work?

thanks

Cost depends on the place of business and the overhead. Are you near the Philedelphia side of New Jersey? My clients tell me that laser and tattooing hurt far more than electrolysis. The newer technology is quite tolerable or I wouldn’t be doing sessions that last several hours. You just have to get several consults and compare electrologists. We offer permanent hair removal with different equipment, skills and speed. Check out as many people has possible and compare. Average cost is probably up to $70 per hour now. Compare and think about who you feel the most comfortable with.

First of all if you aren’t getting results on the above lasers, do not go for IPL it’s not even a real laser. Second of all, you mention that it hurt after the treatment? It should hurt during it, when the laser fires it should hurt and then immediately be pain free. You may be a bit tender and red for the rest of the day but it shouldn’t really hurt much after. It needs to hurt during treatment or it’s too low. It’s impossible to kill a hair and not make it hurt.

with the gentleyag and lase it did hurt during treatment; even with numbing cream ;i still felt it; sorry for not mentioning that.
however with the sciton clearscan it didnt hurt at all; the doctor said because i had the numbing cream on.

Once again, you need to stop looking for either laser or IPL machines. It doesn’t matter what they have. It won’t work on you (of course you can continue listening to people who are asking for your money if you’d like).

Electrolysis is your only permanent option. Period.

It doesn’t hurt that much when the hair is not coarse enough even if the settings are high because the hair doesn’t have enough pigment to attract laser.

Laser cannot remove 100% of hair. It can only remove coarse hair. Everyone will need to finish with electrolysis for 100% removal.

In addition, women with your ethnic background are more susceptible to induced growth on their face from laser or IPL. This means that if you continue to test various lasers and IPLs on your face, you may actually see MORE hair, not less.

I agree totally with LA Girl you need to stop Laser treatments.
You should be doing electrolysis. I am a middle eastern girl and was in the same situation as you. After trying all the lasers you had mentioned and being so desperate to get rid of the hair even tried IPL.It only made the area treated worse.
I ended up having electrolysis and was the best thing I ever did I have been clear of hair for 6yrs now.

Yes, stop NOW. You’re not a candidate for laser. If you haven’t seen results by now, you never ever will (especially not with IPL which is a pretty crummy device next to a GentleLASE machine). Plus, you are risking induced growth every time you have a new treatment because faces are the most common area for this side effect. Yikes!

You need electrolysis. End of discussion. Although electrolysis can cost more total than a complete course of laser treatments, you’ve already had waaaay more than a complete course of laser so electrolysis should be cheap compared to what you’ve been shelling out.

Electrolysis is also 100% successful, so there’s no worrying about if it will work. That makes the cost much easier to bear. I pay $75 per hour from my electrologist, and in my area that’s about average.

I’m so sorry you’ve been taken for a ride by so many clinics. That sounds so horrible. I really hope you find a good electrologist and have the problem solved permanently within the year. Save the laser treatments for your legs, pits, and bikini. :stuck_out_tongue: Good luck!
