Laser time frames

I just started Laser Hair Removal on my bikini…I went to a skin and laser center and did full brazilian - performed by a doctor… he used the Candela GentleMAX laser…the doctor said I was a great candidate - fair skin, brown hair…I am a bit skeptical simply because I had a TERRIBLE experience years ago with laser…I did the back of my neck and sides of my face in the past - I was burned and bruised and quit after 2 sessions…needless to say, it wasn’t successful…I have since switched to electrolysis on those areas and I am doing great (8 months in)…

My questions about laser - first, everything I read says it should hurt a little…he used 7% numbing cream and I sat for an hour with that on prior to starting, then I had ice for 10 minutes prior to starting…needless to say, I really didn’t feel anything except a cool blast after he lasered (the assistant followed his laser with another machine dispensing the cool blast)…since it didn’t hurt, should I assume I didn’t get anything out of it? While there was no pain at the time, about 3 hours later, when the numbing cream wore off, it burned like a nasty sunburn…I took Tylenol 3 and a few hours later, I was fine…Also, this morning, I feel a little stubbly…not as stubbly as normal the next day after shaving, but what should I expect over the next few days…I thought around 8 days I should start “shedding” - does that mean this “stubble” is going to grow and fall out? He told me I will probably want to come back in around 6 weeks for my next treatment and he thinks after 6 sessions I should be pretty much done…I know it is not considered “100% permanent”, but rather a great reduction, but he said I should be pretty bare after 6 sessions and may just need a touch up here and there in the following years…does this sound right? Honestly, this seems too good to be true - I have been waxing for years and if this really is the case, I wish I did this years ago!!

Thanks for the response! I spent an hour before numbing asking questions and I don’t want to be that annoying person calling with more, so I am going to wait a few weeks, see if I shed and go from there…the next time I go in for a treatment, I will be sure to ask all those things and get my settings from the first time…in the event I don’t shed, I will call and discuss it with them as well as get the settings…thanks again for responding!

Regarding the cool blast, I am embarrassed to say, I don’t know - it may have been some sort of vacuum…I have no idea…I simply assumed that’s what it was because that was really all I felt…I was so embarrassed by some of the positions I was in, I really wasn’t watching or paying attention…I closed my eyes and hoped for it to be over soon!

I got the scoop! They actually called me to check in and see how I was doing…here it is…
GentleLase laser, 18 spot size, pulse width of 3, fluente 14 and 233 pulses…it may be conservative, but I had a TERRIBLE experience years ago with laser on my face where I burned and bruised and it was really painful…the doctor and I spoke of that in the consultation…

As for the cream, it is something that they only use in the office under supervision…the girl I spoke with didn’t know the real name, they call it B.L.T cream…

What do you think?

Thanks so much for the info! The doctor was planning on increasing next time…we were both concerned given my past history with laser, but I am comfortable jumping it up next time…is there a huge difference in pain as you go up?
