It’s supposed to feel prickly. The hair will fall out within 3 weeks. You need to wait 2-3 weeks which is when you’ll be able to clearly tell what was missed and go back in to show her and ask for a touchup treatment at that point. You may want to check out other clinics with a Yag laser for future treatments. Even LaserAway with Apogee Elite may be better (and they’re not expensive). I would run a provider search on the Candela website though and check out a couple GentleYAG providers. There are tons in LA.
So I went back and I was very angry but still well spoken. teh nurse tried to give me dormant gsarbage, it will take time etc. But I came back with look at these stripes. I compared the areas that were treated well (with redness, smoothness and pepper spots under the skin) to areas between wich were LONG quarter inch to inch wide stripes going down my legs that had hairs sticking straight out of them.
The were helpful in that they offered to do whatever it takes to make me happt. even re do the area for free and block off 3-4 hours, whatever it takes so that I can check the area and have her do it well. But i just dont wanna bother with that. i shoudl have been able to go in and get it done right the first time rather that having to get it done right AFTER telling them how to do their job. I think I will take teh refund and go elsewhere.
Many of my friends with the same Indina skin have goten treated on ther legs, arms, backs, etc at Solaris intitute in Orange County. But they use an Alexndrite there. I was reluctant to go there because after reading the forum I know that Alexandrite is not the way to go. What I cant understand though is the amazing results that my Indian friends got from the Alexandrite with an 18j setting.
Anyway, thats all for now.
If your skin can handle high settings on GentleLASE, you can use it. Most people with Indian skin burn at high enough settings (18J is just one metric. One an 18mm spot size, it’s a high setting, but on the 10mm spot size, it’s a low setting). GentleYAG is the laser I would look for if I were you.
You don’t have to drive all the way to the OC. If you want to test spot GentleLASE, try Dr Hamilton in Woodland Hills not too far from you. Also, like I said, go to Candela Corporation website and run a provider search for GentleYAG with your zip code.
Btw, at this point, I would let them touch up the areas they missed so that your hairs are synchronized.
you should also look into a diode laser. It is often times more effective than a yag laser and there isn’t as much irritation on darker skin than the alex laser. I am also indian and have had many many treatments with this type of laser. It is very effective on the bikini area, underarms, and lower legs. I have also experienced good results with this type of laser on my face. Just make sure the settings are not too high because hyper and hypo pigmentation may occur (though usually goes away with time).
A diode laser may be ok for some type IV people, but not for others. If you decide to go in that direction, you need to make sure your skin can handle high enough settings on a diode to kill hair without causing burns and/or pigmentation.
Beepsix, i was wondering if you would mind posting up the machine and settings that you were treated with on the diode laser. I am indian too and have type IV (or V) skin, but am unclear on what effective + safe settings on the diode would be for this skin type.
Effective settings on a diode are not for a specific skin type. Generally, over 25j, under 20ms is needed for permanent damage to the hair. If your skin cannot handle these settings without burning, you’re too dark for this type of laser.
So by using a yag laser could you get better results than you would if you used a diode laser?
If you could not handle higher settings on the diode, yes. However, if the hair is not coarse and dark, the YAG will not be able to do much either.

Benji
Generally YAGs are more effective than diodes for reasons that have nothing to do with skin type.
So Alexandrite was effective on which types of skin types on your Indian friends Girlwithhope? Those that were darker or lighter than you?
Hi, I am not girlwithhope but I have done a lot of research and the nd:yag laser is the ONLY laser that East Indians should be using.
But WHY? Some East Indian people have light skin, and so diode or an Alexandrite maybe be okay for their skin.
Indian and other east Asian skin has underlying pigment. Even if the skin looks light, there is still pigment (i.e. that’s why they tan fast and well) in their skin that can cause burns with an alex laser at good settings.
Not necessarily true. It really is a function of the amount of melanin present in the skin. Not their genetic type. Indians tend to have more melanin than caucasians and generally do better on the YAG but we have treated many Indians on the Alexandrite and they have done better when they are an appropriate candidate for that wavelength.
