laser stimulating hairgrowth?!!!!! someone help!

hey, everyone!
i’ve never posted but i came here to address a concern that i don’t know how to address in any other place.
i originally started electrolysis on my face and was planning to do all of my body hair but as it turns out, it is not time-efficient for me with the abundance of hair i have.
i talked to my electrolysis and she recommended i do laser to reduce hair since i’m the best candidate: light skin and dark hair.
it’s much more encouraging to me since it’s more convenient but one thing i have heard of that is scaring me quite a lot is that i have heard of laser actually stimulating inactive surrounding follicles and inducing more hair growth than eliminating it. believe me: I DO NOT NEED MORE BODY HAIR.
my electrolysis told me that people may confuse active hair that has been dormant in its cycle as newly stimulated hair. or i thought of this myself and am not sure if this is possible but perhaps people that didn’t have hair dark enough to be eliminated by the laser actually attracted just enough light to stimulate it instead (since the more pigment you have, the more light is absorbed to kill it and low intensity light can be used to stimulate hair growth too).

can someone help me out here? i want to start my hair-free journey ASAP and i’m convinced that laser is right for me except for this major set-back.

If you’re the right candidate and your find the right laser with someone willing to use the correct settings, it’s more than likely that laser will be fine. Stick to places where the hair is dark and coarse and you shouldn’t see any problems. I still have reduction of hair in an area where I received five laser treatments. I did not experienced laser hair stimulation in that area.

Don’t hate your body =[

Firstly, i was in the same boat! Well I wasnt the best candidate for laser (Brown skin, black hair) but i was advised by many electrologists to go that route. In fact, im still thinking of it but the possible complications are way too risky for me.

As for stimulating growth, it really depends on the person. I remember when i first started electrolysis i didnt have anywhere NEAR the amount of hair on my face that i have now, so for me it might of been that i had dormant hairs. And that was just with electrolysis. But that doesn’t mean it will happen to you. After the first treatment i saw a substantial increase in hair growth so its most likely i will not go down the laser route because of its proclivity to induce hair.

For some people when it comes to laser they may get rid of all the hair but then couple years down the line they have a hormonal disturbance (i.e pregnancy) and start to grow back the hair in the treated area and then some! Trust me we all have that in the back of our minds when we are going to these appointments! Its really hard to say that it will HAPPEN FOR SURE.

Based on what ive read on this forum it seems the general consensus is to stick with electrolysis if your treating your face, and for larger areas laser would be the best option. However, electrolysis seems to overall have the best effect, youll just have to have ALOT of patience. (and be prepared to spend much more). Try seeing a lot of laser techs/electrologists to give you an estimation on how long it would take to get rid of the hair and that should help you a bit more to make your decision. Im also sure the pros on here will a lot of working knowledge to guide you as well.

With every procedure there are risks of side effects involved. It’s like getting liposuction or a face lift; most go well but some people even die from complications but doesn’t mean everyone should avoid getting them. Your job is to find a laser practitioner that you feel is experienced and knowledgeable enough to trust. Look at how many laser systems they have and how many cases similar to yours they treat. Read through laser section on the forum and learn the subject so you will be informed what to look for.

Since I deal with cases of paradoxical hypertrichosis very often, I feel my advice would help.
Laser causes accelerated growth in areas where there is fine growth already. The fuzz present there initially turns darker and longer - how much worse it will get varies from person to person. The most common areas for this to happen are face and neck, upper arms, abdomen and back - especially the sides of the torso, upper side of thighs and buttocks.
You are relatively safe to treat coarse, dark hair on lower legs, bikini, underarm and lower arms. The chances of coarse hair in such area to become worse are under very slim - 1 in thousands. There would be more risk involved in such areas if you have a lot of fuzz between the thick hairs.
For all other areas, I treat my clients with electrolysis and sleep sound at night.
Good luck!
