Laser settings

Hi,

I was wondering what the levels are lowest for each types of lasers that will still have results?

I considering getting my lower abdomen with an Alex she said she would start me 17 joules and the spot size is 10mm the machine goes up to 755nm wavelength. Does that sound good?

Also Im Greek, but very white with dark hair. She also has a YAG and was saying we should go with the YAG because even though Im very white due to my mediterranean background my undertones are darker?? Made no sense to me as I am pasty white.

we need names of machines. settings are not equivalent among the machines. also, 10mm is pretty small. generally, higher joules, higher spot size, and lower pulse are more effective.

she’s right about your ethnicity. it might have an impact or it might not. no way to know before testing.

This is the laser they have, I copy and pasted the info from their website:

EPI Touch Alexandrite 5100
EpiTouch 5100

This machine is used for:
Hair removal.
Treatment of Pigmented Lesions;
Sun spots/age spots.

Running at a 755nm wavelength, this machine is one of the most effective for hair removal on skin types I-IV.
It runs at a fluence of up to 40 J/cm2, and has the ability to emit up to 10000 laser pulses per set.

What do you think?

The Epitouch is an older alexandrite sold by a company called Sharplan that was later bought by ESC. ESC then merged with Coherent and became Coherent and then finally Lumenis. As far as I know they stopped selling that laser about 6 or more years ago.

On that laser, anything over 14 joules has probably some effect, but the truth is that larger spot sizes (up to 18 mm on the Candela and 15 mm on the Cynosure) are more effective. Though many people have great results with a 10 mm spot size. Just that there are a number of people (approx 20%) who do not respond to that size. That is also somewhat site specific. Worse on faces and backs.

Thanks for the advice. Im going to go for a consult with the gentlelase, but this clinic is further away and I take the bus. So I was hoping that this Alex was comparable but if the gentlelase has 18mm spot size thats way bigger and I dont want to waste my $$.

Any thoughts on what a good amount fo joules I would start with the hairs are black with a medium coarseness.

joules are dependent on your skin type. higher joules, more chance for burns. they should do test spots and see if you can handle 14 joules and up on this machine. that’s usually the minimal effective setting, but if you can go higher, you should. 20 joules is max on 18mm and 30 joules is max on 15mm for this machine.
