Laser selection/Do I give up Advice????

I’m looking for a good laser experience, and I need some help in getting there. Here’s my story:

I did about 10 treatments with an IPL (Palomar Estelux I believe) at a sort of beauty school, but all of my sessions were done by the teachers. I did my underarms, my bikini, a line on my stomach and my full legs. They didn’t even tell me ANYTHING about shedding, and I only learned that you were supposed to shed after visiting this website. The only place I’ve noticed any difference at all is in that my leg hair is patchy in places, and I noticed a very slight shedding on my stomach line (but the hair is still there - stronger than even since I’ve shaved it for laser)

I am I type 3 or 4, light skin that tans w/ dark hair, and I’m 16.

Cost is a big concern, but after the big flop with this last place, I am willing to sacrifice a bit more for the sake of quality RESULTS.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice in regards to whether I should stick with IPL, even though it didn’t work in the past (maybe it was just the technician?) or whether some other type of laser is clearly better… Or is anyone of the opinion that the treatment didn’t work because I’m too young (puberty hit 5 years ago though so…)?

I’m pretty desperate to find something good, so any kind of advice would be welcomed. (Even just somewhere in Toronto you’ve had good results with?)

Thank you in advance!

I would not bother with an IPL personally. I’d go with a true laser. There are a number of posts here from people in Toronto who have recommended places (use the search feature in the upper right corner). I remember one person recommended Evropa Laser in downtown Toronto.

At 16 though, you are still growing hair. Laser can only kill what is currently there, so as you get older, you may still see more hair come in. Remember that laser will only work on dark hair that is both coarse and dense.

I think you are abit young for laser treatment at the moment. You could wait a few years and save up some money for good laser treatment. Do your research and besides what if you decide later on that hair removal was the wrong decision and live to regret it. You need to be really sure that this is what you want. How you think now might be entirely different in the future. Also your skin needs time to rest and recover after all these treatments.

You are a bit young but at the same time if you have hair in the areas you mentioned, most of the areas (besides the stomach) should react pretty well. Problem with your age is that it will probably be more cost effective waiting a few more years before doing the treatments.
I don’t ever recommend IPL but the Palomar should be the best IPL on the market. Having said that, i’d still prefer a laser.
Being in the Toronto area myself, i can tell you one thing, those schools basically give you a “cheaper” treatment by letting you get a treatment from people who doesn’t have any experience. Those teachers are usually students that the school offered them a job at being a teacher in the same school they just “graduated” from a month ago. I can also tell you that there is no regulations when it comes to those schools so they don’t really teach how to treat people, what they actually do is give a wide course about everything related to cosmetics and only give you a theory course about laser hair removal.
In other words, the schools sell certificates that will allow them to work at clinics. The reason why the clinic asks for those certificate is because that is the only requirement the insurance has for treating people for laser hair removal. A certificate of 1 hour course vs a certificate of 100 hours course has the same value yet those schools will do anything possible to try to sell the 100 hours certificates to people.
Sorry if i rant too much, i get carried away easily.

Thanks for your advice,

Why is it that you think the stomach won’t react well? Its just my “happy trail” and due to past lasering there, I’ve shaved it and the hairs are fairly dark (still pretty fine though)

I’m just honestly curious b/c seeing as I don’t shave that unless its summer, it could be a good place for me to see if I’m shedding at all with a new laser.
