Laser removal on lip and between brows

Hi, I have decided to take the plunge and go for laser hair removal between my eyebrows and my upper lip.

I went for a consultation today and asked if I could continue to bleach the hair… I have been bleaching them once a week or more for as long as I can remember and plucking in between. She said that I should absolutely not pluck the hair and avoid bleaching if I can because obviously the laser is attracted to the dark hair. She said that I would have to shave instead… but the idea of shaving my face is a bit unappealing, I don’t want stubble! Do you think bleaching would be that bad? surely the hair is still dark under the skin?

These areas are usually not good for laser. Do you have coarse dense growth? Laser only works on that type of hair. If bleaching works on your hair, it’s probably not coarse enough to be killed with laser permanently.

Electrolysis is a better option usually for both of these areas. This is also because laser can’t provide precision for such small areas and can touch and stimulate more growth on adjacent areas. And you may end up getting rid of some hair that you didn’t intend to touch on your eyebrows because of that lack of precision as well.

With electrolysis, there is no shaving necessary and no stubble, and no waiting for shedding.

Shaving for laser should be done 1-2 days prior to treatment, so you wouldn’t have enough time for stubble beforehand. The problem is that you may have stubble during the 2-3 weeks while shedding happens.

Eek! Thanks for your comments.

The hair on my lip is fine yes, but it is dark - hence the bleaching. There’s quite a lot of it. I bleach once a week, after 3 or 4 days I can always start to see the dark hair coming through so it’s pretty rampant. Between the eyebrows it is dark, some is thick and there’s loads of it. I can never pluck and bleach it enough. It goes right down my nose, she won’t be close to the actual brow.

I have very fair skin so I chose laser over electrolysis as I was under the impression that dark hair + fair skin was pretty much ideal, but does it also have to be thick and coarse? That doesn’t leave many areas suitable for treatment! I guess I have some more reading to do before deciding.

Oh, the shaving wasn’t essential, it’s just that I don’t want to walk around with a tache and rampant brows the whole time I’m being treated.

I had the same kind of hair on my upper lip and needed to bleach every week.

I’ve had electrolysis and reduced it to levels where once bleached, I can only see it if I hold the mirror right up to my face.

Yes, for laser, hair needs to be coarse. It’s something clinics don’t mention or promote, and which leaves many unhappy afterwards after they’ve spent the money. We’re trying to save you some

Even if you see some results on the more coarse hair, you’ll still need electrolysis to get rid of the rest.

Laser is best for underarms, bikini and legs on women where hair is coarse and dense.

The laser head is not that small. So precision will be diffult, even between your brows. Plus, as I mentioned, you may experiece induced growth. It’s not really worth it in my opinion.

Well I definitely won’t buy a course then, thanks for the warning!
