Laser removal age.

Hello,

I am 23 yr old male with a lot of body hair and am getting laser done on my back and arms as starters and eventually everything else. I am very light skinned (mid-eastern) with thick dark hairs and dont usually sun burn. I thought I was a good candidate. However, after about 3 sessions it seems to work because everything is patchy like crazy but then eventually it just grows back. I heard that it is because of my age and my hair just grows back too fast and maybe I should get it done at an older age. I just figured thers no point because I wanna goto beaches now.

I wanted to ask the fact that its patchy means it must be working somewhat but how come it grows back after a while. Is it worth it for me to keep going for more sessions? or am i just wasting money?

thanks

It sounds like your treatments are not done well. Patchiness is caused by lack of overlapping. All treated hair should shed within 3 weeks, so at that point, you should see what was missed and should go in for a touchup if it’s more than about 10% or so.

What machine and settings are being used? How is the shedding?

How dense and coarse is your hair? Laser only works on COARSE hair. On hair that’s not coarse enough on male arms, it can actually induce more hair.

um… sorry for late reply… i am quite busy with my time…

the hair on my arms is actually quite coarse probably worse than normal guys back…

im not really sure about the settings i just sort of let her do her thing… the hair does shed in about 3 weeks … however i have gotten 3 treatments and it seems that it just grows back to normal everytime.

Does ALL hair hair? Whatever doesn’t shed at 3 weeks was likely missed and is causing the patchiness.

Can you call and find out about the name of the machine and settings being used? (joules, spot size, and pulse width). It’s really hard to pinpoint the issue without this information. Most machines and clinics out there are either not great or don’t know what they’re doing.

the hairs that shed grow slower but eventually do come back… those that dont shed stay normal… basically its been 3 treatments and i didnt get any for the summer because i wanted to tan… so i waxed and now that the hair is grown back it looks like nothing is different since before the first treatment. i will find out the settings… it might be a while im out of town at the moment… at first i was thinking that if its shedding that should mean that its having some effect but i dont understand why it eventually grows bacck… and its not even thinner… my understanding was its supposed to come back less and less everytime…

You’re not understanding the idea of hair cycles and hair growth. Hair grows in 3 cycles. So once the hair sheds, the new hair you see grow 6-8 weeks later is NEW hair in the next phase of growth. What you’re describing doesn’t sound right. When does the “shed hair” start growing slower? If it’s not at least 5-6 weeks until you see new hair grow in where old hair has shed, you’re likely being undertreated.

what does it mean to be under treated? does that mean she should increase the settings? and if I was under treated, would the hair still shed?

Yes, it means the settings were likely low.

Yes, the hair can shed and not be damaged permanently, just disturbed. That’s why it’s important to get treated at highest settings your skin can handle safely.

what should the settings be? how would i know?

It depends on the machine and your skin type. The clinic needs to be knowledgeable and they can test your skin to see how high they can go safely. Of course, a clinic who’s only interested in your cash won’t care about doing any of this. Thus, finding a good clinic is very important.

would you happen to have any suggestions for a clinic in Toronto?

What machine are they using on you?

its a gentle lase i believe i dont know too much about it… im a student and it was the only thing i can afford. the rest are too costly

How much are you paying per session?

i get full back and full arms she charges me $150 per session… she actually does the front part of my neck too for free… but just a quick few flashes on the neck

I can almost assure you that you won’t be able to find full back and full arms for less than $150, maybe if it would be a cheap IPL. Most places with true lasers (expensive equipment) will charge you at least double that price.

Full back and arms for $150? What clinic is this? I pay $150 for forearms alone at my gentlelase clinic in toronto.

well ya… the lady sort of gave me a student discount thing… the way i see it… the machine costs a fixed amount… if she has extra time with no customers… its better she gets a customer paying something then nothing at all

The machine isn’t a fixed price, they usually pay per pulse so it gets expensive very fast. On most high end machines to replace a hand piece can cost you $15,000.

PHEWThat is quite expensive. What other optional machine could be cheaper?
