Laser on Back

Hi guys i am 27 years old and i did laser back when i was around 19-20 years old and did about 8 sessions with a YAG laser. The only improvement i saw was that the hair become lighter than it was before. I proceeded to do electrolysis and have had good results after a ton of hours, as you will see in the pictures the whole top part of my back is hair free.

My question is, now that i am 27 years old i was wondering if i am a laser candidate based on the hair remaining (Maybe Alexandrite laser). Electrolysis is getting expensive and time consuming for such a large area. I do not want and induced hair or side effects. I just want to get what is left down to an amount that i can remove anything remaining with electrolysis.

Please let me know what you guys think. Much Appreciated.

Do you think alexandrite laser is more effective than Yag ? You already tried 2 hair removal systems : electrolysis and laser,
With your very own words you said you had visible results with electrolysis. So are you ready to pay other sessions of laser without any garantee of results ?

Dr. Labroca, French dermatologist said me that laser can not get long time results on the back. If you want to do laser in this area and maintain results you have to repeat the sessions regularly, every 2 mouths during years… In this situation is electrolysis more time consuming and more expensive than laser ? I don’t think so.
Of course it depends of the competences of your electrologist and how much (s)he charges. But since electrolysis can garantee the results, this is a good investisment in the time, isn’t it ?

I believe the mistake i made was doing laser at a younger age. Even electrolysis at a younger age was not working as well it is now that i’m older. I believe it has to to with age more than anything else. My brother did laser starting around 25-26 years old and had as much hair as i did and now has barely anything left. He has not had a session done since 2008.

Indeed laser on back is not recommended for young people. However electrolysis works perfectly for any age. If you had the pretty same density of hair when you was 19, electrolysis should had get rid of all visible hair.
Of course when you get older, vellus hair can develop into terminal, darker hair. But all hair can not grow back (at least should not, if the treatment was completely and properly proceeded) the same pattern as you had before beginning the treatment.

You look like a very good candidate for laser, but I recommend you to stick to one hair removal method and don’t mix things up.

Personally I had bad results with laser treatments on my back so would go with electrolysis.

Respecting the profile of candidate of laser hair removal, I would say many are called but few are elected.

I would try laser and see how it goes. I started with electrolosis on my back, had about 40-45 hours into laying on the table without much of a difference. Looking at it I figured I would have 200-300 hours into it before I was cleared. I don’t have that kind of time so I started looking at laser. A lot of folks here really like to put laser down. Sure, some forms of laser are a joke but others do work.

I can have my back cleared in about 15 minutes during a laser treatment. My treatments are spaced 5-6 weeks apart and I am told that in a years time I should be cleared. Granted it may not be 100%, but I can always finish up with electrolosis. That’s about ten treatments times 15 minutes = 150 minutes. I was doing 4 hour sessions with my electrolosist each week. So going by that math I think you will spend a lot less time with laser.

As mentioned before, or in other threads, laser will not remove 100% of the hair. So depending on your outcome and what you want you may still have to see an electrolosist in the end, but it will save you a lot of time.

Just make sure you do your homework, find the right laser and the right laser tech to do the work you want done. If you put in the effort in the beginning it will pay off ten times in the end.

This is not about putting laser down. This is about facts. Laser can not garantee the results in long time period. Some people have results, this is great; but some don’t and they was “perfect candidate”.

All areas of the body don’t respond the same after a laser treatment. Some areas tend to get results (and only for a special kind of hair) but others like men back, shoulders, neck and female face and tronco don’t respond very well. As I said, what my dermatologist said me (about alexandrite laser that she uses) was confirmed with many cases I personally meet and saw on this forum.

About electrolysis : the result depends of the practicionner. If you see no results, this is not normal. I suggest you to check out some threads here about electrolysis results. You could saw pictures of Michael Bono, Josefa M. Reina and others professionals in this forum.

I will say a thing more : I see very often on the internet many people putting down electrolysis too. They said : it doesn’t work, this is very slow, this is very old… Laser is great, is very quick… Ok, all that stuff are just words. For me pictures are proof I need. I am just saying.

Have posted some weeks ago pictures of my lasered legs with incredible results.

I don’t think laser hair removal is faster, but can be cheaper and more comfortable especially with the home devices.

Electrolysis is still superior because there aren’t normally big uncertainies. The customer get what he wants, permanent hair removal if the practitioner does it properly. Laser has to many requirements and the results not in anyway predictable.

1yr after very pleased with result no more hairs ecept v few ones that i will try to retreat in spring

Laser hair removal on body hair can be very successful if the boundary conditions match and if everything is done right. Unfortunately it looks as if it is more often not done right than it is successful.

BTW: i also had the experience of a very successful treatment (with IPL) - but it would have been far less successful if i did not force the operators to use reasonably much energy and offered the operators mostly anagen hairs in 4 month intervals)

On the other hand i just did a five hour session on a guy with dark hairs and white skin. In the past he spent a lot of money and pain into laser treatments without any visible effect, and according to the many hours i need - ok, whole upper body, back, front, sides, shoulders, upper arms, neck, throat, 2nd clearance just finished with very noticeable results) despite of being almost as fast and efficient as Josefa is, also without any long term effect at all.

Hey guys, just wondering if someone can provide a more clear opinion on whether i would be a candidate or am i risking inducing hair growth?
Thanks

I had laser about 10 years ago on back and shoulders and my hair growth today looks like I never had any treatment. I was supposed to be a “good” candidate, and the place is very reputable, but it didn’t give me lasting results. (Or, I guess it could have helped, I might have been even hairier, but not much effect at any rate).

I can’t manage to find any patterns in what I’ve read here in HT about which laser cases work. Surely dark hair and light skin helps, but the results seem all over the place. Simply hard or even impossible to predict.

(I do get an impression that laser on arms and legs seem a bit more likely to have lasting results, but I haven’t tried and feel free to correct me).
