Laser in Los Angeles Opinions

Hey guys,

New hair in the forum. I went to have a few consultations in Los Angeles. A lot of stuff out there and it’s hard to pick.

Firstly, I stayed away from any place that said they didn t need to see me b4 scheduling a treatment (that happened in two places).

I went to three places and ended up liking two (Aestheticure in Beverly Hills and Institute of LAser Medicine at the UCLA medical center). They use two different lasers (Gentlelase Plus and Photolysis HR). When i research on the internet I see posts that have to say good things and bad things about both! It s driving me nuts!!

The price difference is outrageous ($2,000 for five treatments back + shoulders versus $6,500!)

Comments, personal experience, another place to go??? Anything would help!!! Fire away!

Check out Dr. Brandeis website. They use LightSheer and prices seem to be very good. They’re in Beverly Hills. I go to Babapour in BH as well and he uses GentleLASE. Both of these lasers are good for light skin and dark hair. What’s your skin and hair type?

I heard good things about Aesteticure and GentleLASE Plus they use is a good laser for light skin and dark hair. Stay away from Photolysis HR, it’s an IPL. Here’s a link to Andrea’s description of it:

What areas are you getting done? Dr. Brandeis’s website says they charge $189 for back treatment, no commitments. Seems like a good deal. I’m actually going in for a consultation there this week as I want to try LightSheer. They seem to be very busy and they quote a price over the phone.

I’m in LA too, so let me know if you have more questions.

I went to the Institute of Laser Medicine. Don’t go there. Fortunately, they were using regular lasers when I went, not IPL. But I still had a bad experience there and even had to get a personal letter from Dr. Tobinik after the way some techs acted.

I went to Dr. Brandeis a year or so ago, when passing through LA. It was my first experience (back and shoulders)and I found him to be very good. However, as I only had one treatment and had no other frame of reference it’s difficult to be objective. Suffice to say that next time in LA I will definitely go back to him – the price was great (280 for back, shoulders and upper arms) and there was no rush.

I never did much follow up reading on Photolysis HR. So it’s really an IPL.

I went back and looked at that site. In the"after photo" of the man’s chest, it looked like he shaved recently and had some ingrown hairs. You can see a five o clock shadow on his chest so it looks like there is still hair there unless it’s tombstones.

I forgot to post on this thread, but I did end up having one treatment by Dr Brandeis for my 4th treatment on bikini, underarms and stomach. I do NOT recommend him although his prices are incredibly cheap. I experienced almost no shedding (maybe 10%) after this one treatment, while in the previous 3 and the 2 after that with my regular Dr. Babapour with GentleLASE, I always experienced 80-90% shedding. I don’t know what to attribute this to exactly, but my hypothesis is that he wasn’t operating the laser in the most efficient manner, especially on someone who’s had a few treatments before so the hair was not the most dense and coarse as when you first start. He used gliding method with LightSheer (which is faster, but less effective – this laser is not meant to be glided over the skin) and didn’t use compression at all. So, even at 33 joules that he used, I barely felt anything on some areas and just a bit on others. Needless to say, I went back to my original doctor who I found through the Candela website (GentleLASE menufacturer) and had great results. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
