Hi all,

The Royal Free is a good option.
If you search the Laser threads, you can find more recommendations.
Do you need an Alex or a YAG?
I’m type 3, I’m dark haired but fair skinned so I’m thinking Alex. Renew Medica also looks like a good option,
Thanks!
It depends on the tech, most have a tendency to use lower settings. Also since you’re type III they may use the Lightsheer Diode, which many can’t use properly.
It may be worth trying a few clinics that only have an Alex. There’s Laser Active in Canary Wharf and I’m sure you can find others. Just go for consultations and note setting used.
I have been recommended the Royal Free hospital in Hampstead- I’m not native to England but how do you get appointments to this place since I guess it’s the NHS running it?
Also- Boston Clinic on Moscow Road, Bayswater… I have only done a consultation with them and from the area they did, hairs did shred.
The prices are low for underarms there.
FYI- I have heard that the people working there are a bit gossipy. That puts some people off…
Hi Emily,
The Royal Free clinic is a private one. It’s not run by the NHS but I believe nurses do the treatment and it’s run by doctor’s. I have one friend who had treatments here and she said that the treatments are nice and painful and their approach is ‘no pain, no gain’.
Thanks for the rec Emily, I’m going to go for a consultation, let me know how you get on
I went to the Moscow Road clinic today for a test patch, I’m also going to try Renew Medica.
I thought the whole experience was ok, I had Lightsheer Diode I think 20j. The practitioner said we would start low and build up and when I questioned this she said it was so she didn’t burn the skin on too high a temperature. It hurt a fair bit, no shedding as of yet, she was ok, I’m really looking to just get reduction before electrolysis but the practitioner wasn’t fabulous [not too sure who it was]
If Renew also try the Lightsheer on you, I think it would be worth going somewhere with an Alex laser. Not that the diode can’t do the job, but you really need a good tech. Unless you have a first hand recommendation, it’s an expensive way to find out if the tech is any good or not.
My cousin recently went for a consult at Laser Active and her feedback was good. They used higher settings than her first laser treatment a few months back at a different clinic. They were also apparently in support of waiting longer between sessions, which I have not come across any other clinic do yet.
I used to go to the Boston Clinic (many years ago) I found them a bit disorganised and you could not always have the same tech. But they were good value and very busy. And years on my legs are still hair free. I don’t recall the people that worked there being “gossipy” the techs came from all parts of the world and didn’t have time to stop and gossip. What I didn’t like was having to discuss setting up an appointment in the reception area with people sitting there. But I think you get that in all clinics. Preferred them to Sk:n and Renew Medica.
I have now had one treatment with renew Medica, [Oxford Street]. The technician wanted to use diode before Alex as she said it would burn the skin because it was going too deep or ssomething? One week on I’ve got what I think is shedding coming through, ie the area is really dark and a lot of it is under the skin. I didn’t realise it would hurt so much though ahh!
