Laser hair removal on scalp

Hello all,

Thinking of having scalp hair removed with laser. Im type IV skin, found a clinic that uses a Gentle YAG, very experienced and has done a few scalps.

Anyone had a good experience with LHR for scalp?
Is it easier or harder than the beard-there seems to be a few people who have had trouble with the beard.

Advice much appreciated.

I would think that scalp hair would be too deep to do with LHR, but what do I know.

There have been a few reports. One is on the Cosmetic Enhancements forum. Run a search and you should be able to find them.

What settings are they planning to use?

I believe the setting is 18J with 18mm spot size. I will find out more details from my tech.

On GentleYAG, max on 18mm is 30J. So that setting is relatively low.

18 Spot, 18 Joules would be good on Gentlelase but on Gentleyag it would be quite low.

What setting would you recommend on a gentle YAG for type IV skin on 18 spot?

Skin types are approximate and there is underlying pigment. They need to test your skin to see what YOU can handle safely.

Just remember that on 18mm, max is 30J and minimum pulse width is 3ms. The closer to that you can get without side effects, the better.

So had first treatment, went ok. Super painful. No major after effects on skin other than some transient tederness/redness.
18spot
20J
30ms

My tech wants to go up slowly on the setting each treatment: Id rather get 3 or 4 spot tests to determine the maximum my skin can tolerate now and then treat maximally from as early as possible.

Caution isnt always a bad thing and I think it may be that there just arent that many people with my skin colour being treated here.

So, realistically does anyone one know how much higher than the above settings type IV skin can often tolerate? Obviously i know it varies. Im happy to go to a different clinic but would rather not unless they are really too cautious where I am now…after all I want permanent removal.

Thanks

What you want to do is correct. It’s not in your best interests to start low and basically pay for treatments that don’t affect much hair.

Btw, the lowest pulse is 3ms.
