Laser Hair Removal in New Jersey or NYC?

I recently moved to New Jersey from California. I have had many laser hair removal

sessions (mostly on my face) and had 3 different lasers used on me. The lightsheer

was the first laser and I went for 8 treatments at Dr. Narurkars office in San

Francisco. I had very good results on the areas that he worked but I felt that he

had me come in too frequently (usually 3-4 weeks rather than 6-10 weeks) and he was

also very distracted and somewhat careless during our sessions not covering the

whole area. I actually have quite a bit to say about my sessions with him but that

wasn’t the point of this post. I ended up having about a 90% reduction on my chin,

100% on my sideburns and maybe 50% on my upper lip.

A couple of years later I decided to try again, I wanted to see if I could get 100%

reduction on my chin and finish off the upper lip. At this point I moved to San

Jose from San Francisco and I found a local place, I can’t remember what they were

called, Some Medspa. For my first visit they used a Yag laser on me since I am

Mediterranean but fair skinned. I tan well instead of burning and she wanted to be

cautious even though I told her that I had it done before. For the second session I

am not sure what they used, I don’t think it was a diode but that’s possible. I can

say that both lasers used at the medspa hurt a lot less than the lightsheer

sessions. It may, however, be due to the anesthetic that they used. For the

lightsheer sessions I used my own emla cream. For these I used my own cream and

then they slathered on their stuff which is a blend.

The Yag laser hurt the least. I didn’t feel a thing with it but I had shedding, I

am just not sure how effective it was.

During the medspa laser treatments the lady decided to go over my cheeks, which had

very fine, peachfuzzy hairs. A few months later some of these hairs grew back to be

coarse, black nasty hairs. Also my hormones have been out of control and I am

having new growth of coarse black hairs on my face. It’s quite problematic. My

hormones are back under control for the most part but I have to deal with the new

growth.

Of course… of all places in the country I move to, I end up in NJ, the freak

state that won’t allow anyone but a physician to perform laser hair removal for me.

And on top of that they charge an arm and a leg! If only my insurance covered it!

lol So I suppose I will end up taking a train into NYC (about 15 miles away) and

get it taken care of there. Unfortunately there are so many laser hair removal

places in Manhattan it’s difficult to find out any information without a

consultation and unfortunately, since I don’t live in manhattan, it isnt easy for

me to take a day off all the time to go from place to place for hair removal

consultations. Yelp in CA was fantastic. There were reviews for everything!

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good laser hair removal place in Bergen County, NJ or Manhattan?
If you don’t want to respond here you can also pm me.

Thanks!

There is Yelp for NJ and NYC as well

We have a contributor from NYC on this forum - Chris, the owner of Romeo & Juliette in midtown. I’ve been to his place and definitely recommend him (as many do on these forums). Of course, you should always check out a couple places and ask a lot of questions to make sure you go to the best place you feel most comfortable at.

If you’re not tanned, you may be light enough for an alex too. I know Chris’s clinic has both alex and Yags, so they can choose an appropriate one for you.

Make sure you’re only treating dense coarse hair. You’ll always have some fine hairs remain after you finish treatments which the laser can’t affect. At that point, you need to switch to electrolysis.
