Laser hair removal from Medicam.ca Best service ever on the net.

OK, we’ve had this machine since just before Christmas and here’s the latest.

Each weekend we wax and tweeze one leg and one underarm on my wife and treat the area with the laser per the instructions in the book. The instructions state that for BEST results, we should wax/tweeze the area so that the hair follicle is empty. We are then told to apply the carbon based dye so that the follicle shaft is full of the carbon based dye and that the carbon based dye will provide a conduit for the laser energy to travel down the follicle shaft and stop the hair from growing.

After treatments every weekend since Christmas, the left leg is showing some very good progress and the underarm is doing very well too. I would say that only about 75% of the hair is growing back and what is growing is very fine compared to the more course hair we saw when we started. The underarm is equally hair free over about 25% of the treated area. At this point, we are happy that the machine does what it is advertised to do.

The laser shaving is working pretty well too. We’re using toes for that experiment and even though it shaves the hair fast and looks pretty good afterwards, it grows back. Clearly the removing the hair follicle and applying the dye is the best way to achieve permanent (at least as permanent as possible) hair removal.

Down side:

We spend a LOT of time prepping the treated areas for laser. Waxing and tweezing the front of a leg and an underarm is time consuming. Applying the dye is time consuming. Treatment with such a small head is time consuming. I’d say we can spend two hours each weekend doing this. IF the larger, more powerful systems used in the professional shops are faster and more effective, than I’d be willing to pay for someone to do it.

Also, it took a lot of trial and error to get used to the laser and to learn what power levels would work for the two different treatment areas. Obviously, the underarm didn’t need as much power as the leg.

So, despite the bad press it’s received on this site, we are happy with the machine. Cindy, the sales rep I bought the device from, still answers her phone and still responds to my e-mails. I’ve recommended the device to some friends and they have had good response from the company.

I still think the professional services would be faster and less time consuming. On the flip side, we set up a rather nice room in one of our homes just for laser treatment and its more comfortable and more intimate than being in some strangers office. My wife’s two teenage sisters have had two treatments each and feel much more comfortable there with me doing the treatments. You know how teenagers are…

Anyway, I hope this information helps people looking at these machines. I’ll come back in a month or so and provide another update.

Cliff,

The only way for you to see a little result is to go at maximum intensty (less 1 mm) and 3/4 of the speed. We unfortunately sold these units in the passed and the results were not really good. These units are pin point lasers so if you spend time on a hair, you will get some results. They’re very low power units and the diode modules inside the handpiece are unprotected so avoid using them for a long time. That is also exactly why the handpiece overheats. About their carbon dye, don’t buy it from them because this product is exactly the same dye you can find in any drugstore for a lot cheaper. Don’t think that they are selling a special dye. For the price of their 50ml, you can get a big bottle anywhere. In fact you are using it the right way because without waxing and the dye, you will not see any results.
Good luck

Thanks Phil…I’d never tell my wife, but I’d just as soon she go to the clinic and get this done. Their machines seem much more powerful and the treatment times are shorter. The DMD’s appear to work, but geepers…at this rate I’ll be gray before we see any real results!

So you are waxing/plucking both sides and treating just one with the device, right? That’s the best way to get a comparison at six and twelve months after final treatment.

I was going to suggest that as well since otherwise, I would assume it’s hard to tell whether you’re seeing lack of hair due to the machine or the waxing which usually lasts 4-6 weeks alone. how long has it been since last treatment/waxing?

LAgirl, Cliffy, where is our update?

It has been 6 months since our last check in on Cliffy’s progress with the home use laser. We really want to keep this going so we can see the value of the product.

haven’t seen anything from him recently. hopefully, he will post soon. i’m personally not too optimistic, just because the technique that this thing uses is same as that Softlight laser, that was the first on the market, that used the waxing and dye technique, which was evenutually proven ineffective and they were sued (it’s on Andrea’s site).

Gee-Whiz. I wonder why Clffy never came back to tell us what happened with his side by side leg trial of the Medi-SCAM home use So-Called-LASER system?
I guess someone doesn’t want to see me dance “The Church Lady Superiority Dance” :smirk:
