Laser hair removal and the pill

Hello, firstly my apologies if this is posted in the wrong section.

I have excessive hair growth, and for this my gynecologist prescribed me a birth control pill, which would make my hairs finer. I definitely want to get laser hair removal anyway, since I would still have excessive hair growth, also when I stop the pill. I don’t have PCOS.

However, I am now wondering, whether I should start the pill or not before doing laser hair removal. If I first start the pill, and my hairs start to grow finer and are reduced, then doing laser would be less effective, right?

Should I do laser and wait until that’s finished, then start taking the pill?

The hairs you have now won’t get finer with birth control pills.

I do not like laser for a woman’s face. I have seen far too much laser stimulation result as a consequence. Don’t risk it!

With electrolysis, you don’t have to worry about the size of the hair, the color of the hair or the color of the skin. In my humble opinion, electrolysis is for a woman’s face. Leave laser for dark, dense, coarse hairs on the body.

… In addition… If you submit a QUALITY picture of your hair area, that helps us answer your questions even better!

Thank you for your response dfahey!

Why won’t the hair I have now get finer with birth control pills? I thought birth control pills were commonly prescribed for this issue.
My apologies, I should have specified: I am talking about my bikini area + thighs. That is the area I am currently interested in lasering. (I also have excessive hair growth in other areas however:shoulders, face, back, stomach, etc). I am interested in lasering these areas in the future as well.

The birth control pill CAN make hairs finer, but it depends on the person. Sometimes it will only slow or stop new growth. Spironolactone is another drug that many people use to reduce hirsutism–and it can definitely eliminate growth that is already there.
