Laser gone wrong - My story

How old are you?

I’m 23… I know the hairs are the most active at this point…

You are succeeded, your age is an important factor. The neck and the area under the eyes is the last zone that develops.

If the level has already reached the zone of the Adam´s apple , maybe it already does not spread more down. But some hair still will reach more thickness on the chin and on the sideburns. I hope it is very little. As soon as you manage to control the situation with the Electrolysis, a couple of appointments will be sufficient a year to kill the future hair that will be stimulated by the passage of time. Courage!

Thanks for your knowledge depilacionelectr. I intend to keep up periodically with this journey so others can benefit!

So, to date I have had 11 hours of electrolysis on the face and started on December 8, 2010. So far my cheeks are cleared, chin, working towards side burns (almost there) and also have about 40% of my neck done. Her method is to maintain and advance (I didn’t appreciate this before, but now I definitely do considering the hair cycles). There are mostly patches on my neck that the laser induced, so hopefully it doesn’t take as much time. Like I mentioned, there are not that many regrowths, but she gets them in about an 45-1hr then moves on to untreated hairs. Healing is great. I get scabs, but they go away within 3-4 days. I’ve started drinking a lot more water and my skin is looking much much better. I have my next two hour appointment on Wednesday. Goodbye hair!

This is not to encourage or discourage you about trying to get your money back, but here is the information that I mentioned about legal action.

Thanks Ms. Fahey. I will be looking into it.

Just an update and looking for input. So I have had another 4 hours of electrolysis on my face/neck. Looks like it’ll be a lot more hours before I get my first clearance (I was very over zealous with my 5-7 hour prediction). However, with each session it is an emotional boost. It has now been almost 2 months of seeing my electrologist and 15 hours completed. I have about 20% left to go on my cheeks and 50% left to go on my neck for a full clearance. She continues to maintain and advance.

Quick question, depilacionelectr you said that I might see a lot of regrowth in the third month? Wouldn’t this be gradual rather than sudden? I have been dreading the onset of the third month. So far, I haven’t seen major regrowth or just haven’t been able to notice it. I do notice hairs coming in gradually however, which she tackles when I see her. I do notice that when my electrologist clears an area, the next week there is quite some regrowth, but after she clears it and then on the regrowth is sparse.

Also, I am noticing the peach fuzz hidden beneath all the thick hairs that I didn’t notice before my electrolysis. I do not care to get rid of those hairs, but I am nervous that these will turn into stimulated/darker hairs after some time. Does anyone have any input on this? I believe you mentioned something about this depilacionelectr…

You can leave the fuzz for now. If they ever turn to anything, you can get a touchup laser in life. I would concentrate on what actually bothers you now.

Hairgoaway, what I have tried to say is that when a zone has been waxing previously , the hairs appears gradually during the following 3 months -or maybe a bit more if the hair is very thin. And this is probably, which is happening in you.

Do not worry for the future hairs, nobody can know what follicles will be stimulated in the future. The only indication which we have is that some hairs peach fuzz begin to be a bit longer, this hair starts being “different” from the others, firstly in length and later in thickness. You are so young, that your hair system still has not stopped completing.

You must not be afraid if a new outbreak of hair takes place. Your electrologist will be there to control this outbreak and will be much EASIER and FAST.

To know that this can happen you will avoid future disappointments and you will know that it was not a mistake of your electrologist, but the evolution of our own organism. The electrolysis cannot be a disappointment for you, because it is the only solution for the type of hair that you have.

If you do not notice that the hair is forced to go out, everything is OK.

Thanks for your knowledge depilacionelectr and LAgirl. I know it was a typo, but your post sounds like a cruel joke LAgirl, lol. Okay well 17 hours done as of today. I went for four hours this week. Ugh I just wish I was done with a first clearance (meaning get to all untreated areas at least once). FYI, we haven’t touched upper lip and lower lip we only worked on the thickest hairs. Still no major regrowth in treated areas. I am sticking to this, no matter cost/time. I’m going to law school in the fall and know I will have zero time to deal with it then. I can’t be dealing with this for the rest of my life either. Blah! (venting)

So I have another few hours of electrolysis. I am starting to lose track. Maybe another four more? I want to post pictures but not sure how. I’m in need of some input. I think my electrologyst is very skilled at what she does. I never feel plucking and for the most part whatever comes back is finer (almost 2.5 months into this), except for the obviously untreated ones that are coming back from waxing. But it is going slow. I am starting to think too slow. Should I be seeking out someone else with a faster modality? It is so hard to find anyone around here in NJ doing thermolysis, let alone flash thermolysis. Everyone seems to feel comfortable with blend. Should I stick with her? Honestly, I feel that whatever she has treated has been amazing so far. However, I am getting pigmentation issues on my cheeks, but I think it’s more because I have not gotten into a cleaner routine (wash twice a day, witch hazel, tea tree oil), but I really just started the other day and already my skin is looking much better. She suggested I use zinc oxide, any two cents on that?

Blend will get you there and it is an amazing modality for hair removal as you have noted. If this is the modality she is comfortable with and she doesn’t have the desire to do a flash thermolysis that has greatly improved over the 1/10 timing type flash thermolysis from years ago, then so be it. Slowness depresses hairy people and that is why I choose a different strategy with three great thermolysis modes I have available. I can clear a woman’s face typically in 1-5 hours, depending on how severe the case is. I have just a rare few exceptions to this rule.

Regardless of what any electrologist says, the newer and better engineered epilators offer a technological advantage that those epilators of yesteryear don’t offer. Put the skill factor with these newer epilators and you have fallen into something really good. Again, to keep blood pressures from escalating to war potential, ALL MODALITIES OF ELECTROLYSIS WORK - ALL BRANDS OF EPILATORS CAN DESTROY THE LOWER 2/3 OF THE FOLLICLE, BUT WHAT MATTERS MOST IS THE SKILL OF THE ELECTROLYSIS PERFORMING THE WORK. The electrologists that complain the most about modalities and equipment are the ones who have never worked on the other side from what they are familiar with and are feeding off the words of someone else who poo-poo’s the different modes of newer technology. I frequently hear that the machine controls me, which is just silly and not true. Many stay with just one modality because they know it works, but there are are many paths that work just as well - as long as one is trained or re-trained in their proper use. That is the beauty and advantage of consumers having electrolysis - there are many modalities that will suit their hair structure needs. No one is ever too old to re-train and learn something new for their clients.

I wish you could compare all modalities, hairgoaway. I have worked with four different epilators over the years, using all modes of electrolysis and I have experienced the best in all, but have settled on strategies and modlities that work to get the hair off the depressed asap. Do you live near near the Philedelphia side of New Jersey?

thats awful to hear, so sorry for you. its a hard case to prove, but you can try, if you are entitled to some kind of legal aid??

most people wouldnt think of researching extensively- they consult a so-called professional laser tech, they are the expert- so why wouldnt you trust them? such a shame. even today when i talk about stimulated growth at the place i get electrolysis, i get incredulous gasps of, but thats impossible!! and *no, thats because the women who get hairier after laser are usually in a state of hormonal change due to their age, so they would get hairier regardless. hmmm.

i keep getting told to get laser on my lip because its quicker, but that hair is really fine, and dark, but i refuse due to stimulated growth, which they mock me about. after having 2x laser and 1x ipl on it, i have started with electrolysis, as my brows are almost finished.

those 2 laser sessions i had over a year ago (along with the 1xipl 5 years ago)- i cant be sure of course- but since then i now have three dark, thicker hairs on my cupids bow (one shabby laser ±tech carelessly did an area under my nose there, where there was only fine white fuzz- totally normal hair and not a problem- now in that exact place are the dark hairs). under my chin the fuzz is now longer and dark, and they seem to be multiplying. also to my horror, under my bottom lip, three or four fuzz hairs have turned dark. i never ever had a problem there, and thats not through lack of analysis. its as if my mustache is slowly blurring into my chin…

im part pakistani and have always been hairy, but the pattern has never really changed since puberty- i have pcos but the hairiness is from genetics as far as im concerned. and i am 28, so it could be hormonal change (also i didnt take my metformin for pcos much in the past four months, so my periods stopped again and my acne got worse, along with my moods), so who knows why the fuzz is starting to turn, although i dont think i was destined to grow a beard- and i do feel pretty sure it was from the stimulated growth.

now im in a race against time to fight against the fuzz as it turns. unfortunately the company where i go have a policy, that they dont treat fine or fuzzy hairs as it can damage your skin blah blah. i have coerced them into it however as i am very happy with my techs tech (hah), with the advice from james and co (thank you).

off to get some emla cos the upper lip is unbearably painful to get done!

There is someone else on the forum who is in New Jersey and I believe found a good electrologist. Hopefully, they will respond here.

Hi…I am from NJ and I am really happy with my electrologist…the first time I went to her, she did thermolysis…now she does blend…I am having the sides of my face treated as well as the back of my neck…the sides of my face were cleared the first day in about 45 minutes…the back of my neck is an ongoing project. I personally like blend more - I think it hurts less than thermolysis (personal opinion)…I don’t tell her what to use…she assesses my skin and we discuss my healing each week, then she makes the determination…I have only been going about a month - my first appointment was 45 minutes (face only)…second was about an hour and a half (re-clear face and start neck)…third appointment was about 30 minutes (we re-cleared my face, but the neck was too sensitive to continue) and my last appointment was about 2 hours…(30 minutes to re-clear my face, the rest on the back of my neck)…unfortunately, I don’t think I am close to clearing the back of my neck yet…from your posts, it doesn’t sound like your electrologist is doing (or not doing) anything that would warrant changing, but message me if you would like the name and number of mine…she is in Hunterdon County NJ. (She is also a nurse and an esthetician, so I really feel she knows her stuff)

Does yours not do thermolysis, or is she just not doing it on you? I believe mine does all the methods, but I trust her judgement regarding what she thinks is best for my skin.

Hi everyone. Thanks for your posts. I do appreciate it so much! I actually wasn’t sure if my electrologist did thermolysis, but I talked to her about and she said that she may switch to that later, but is really happy so far with the results I am getting with blend. I went to her for an hour last week and she was able to re-clear all the areas she tackled. She is really focused on getting me results and I appreciate her sincerity so I think I may stick with her. Also, I know that she has great lighting and magnification and is really hygienic. Always worrying about getting a new electrologist and what not takes a stressful toll. I still have about 75% of my neck left to do than regrowth from there on. I think from now on I will be checking in every once in a while to keep people updated on results, but I am now trying to not get obsessed with it. It weighs really heavily :-/.

PS - Thanks helpme37 for offering to share your electrologist, but unfortunately HC is a little far from me. I would only be able to go on weekends.

PSS - The zinc oxide has been an amazing healer BUT it dries out the skin. I only use it every other day and vitamin E. Seems to be working.

Hi everyone, just checking in. It’s been about four months in my electrolysis journey. I have to say that I am sooo pleased with the results, but still weary. It’s been two weeks and the right side of my face still looks great! The left side not so much and the neck- well still needs a lot of work. I actually went to see a woman that does thermolysis and did a fifteen minute session with her. No plucking and healing was fine. I am thinking of going to see her now because it was going a lot faster. I hope that by law school this will be under control! :-/. Still hopeful as this is the only solution…

You’re on your way. It will take a total of a year or 18 months. It would be beneficial for you to get clearances each time you go in. Then you only have to go back in every 3-4 weeks to clear the area again.

Hi everyone. I know it has been a while, but I wanted to give updates about my progress. After seeing about 3 electrologists over about a year and a half, I have finally got this laser-hair induced bully under control. After a few months of seeing a blend electrologist for my full face (who unfortunately was incredibly slow, which I did not realize at the time), I switched to a woman that does thermolysis closer to home. I saw her an hour for about 11 months with 2-3 week intervals. Since January I have been seeing another woman that does the blend to get rid of the really stubborn hairs that were not going away primarily on my neck. I see her for about an hour no less than 3 weeks apart now. I am finally no longer super conscious about all the hairs on my face. I have gotten so much of my confidence back.

I just want to say thank you to everyone on this forum for all your guidance and support. For months this was the only place I could go to figure out how I was going to get through this ordeal. It gave me SO much hope… While it has been a long struggle, I am so glad I stuck with the schedule and I know it has been worth all the time and investment. Again, I can’t thank this website enough. Thank you all for your expertise and encouragement.

I would also like to say that in the times that I have seen my electrologists, I have also worked on my stomach line area, lower back, and nipple area. The latter has virtually no hair anymore, 95% is gone on my stomach line area, and lower back has a significant reduction.

I also went to see an amazing laser hair removal organization in NY, NY and have had amazing results on my full legs and bikini area. I only had two treatments and I would say I have a 50% reduction everywhere. It has been almost 8 months since I was last treated.

I am located in Central NJ. Feel free to message me for referrals. I will try to get back to you as soon as possible, but don’t often visit this site anymore. Best of luck to everyone on their journey.

THANK YOU HAIRTELL!!

It was very nice of you to take the time to tell us about your feelings and experience. Now, you are helping many who are just starting to gain information about how to get rid of their excess hair. Electrolysis and LASER can certainly complement each other, but you have to know how to best use these modalities to your individual needs. If there was no LASER, however, electrolysis could still answer your every dream to be hair free everywhere. Sounds like you did your homework well. I am so glad to hear that you found comfort and good information here to help you succeed.
