laser for body hair in DC (Yag or Gent.)

Hello -
I have posted here earlier for facial hair (above beard) and decided to look for an electrologist.
As for my body hair I want to move quick but have been confused. I am somewhere between type 3-4 as the doc said, but I have been avoiding the sun for YEARS on my back so the contrast between the hairs and my skin (back and shoulders) is great.
Hence:
should I just go for the most recommended laster Gentlelase or should I still be conservative and go for Yag ?

If I understand well ( after the research I made) YAG seems the safest for those who are slightly darker but maybe not as effective as Gentlelase. It seems that one of the first advocates for Yag has an institute for LHR not far from where I leave in Washington DC.

(any advice about an office in the area would be very welcome).
Many thanks for your help and patience again.

You should go to a few consultations with places that have GentleLASE and have them do test spots. If your skin doesn’t burn at high enough settings, you’re fine. It would be best to go to a clinic that has BOTH alex and yag lasers. That way they’re completely unbiased.

There are many many clinics in your area, so you have lots of options. Check out the link below with info on how to find clinics near you. Also, run an Advanced Search on the forum for your area expanding to 3-4 years. And check out Baltimore and other areas nearby which have been also recommended. Definitely also look on the Cosmetic Enhancements Laser Hair Removal Forum. There are several recommendations in your area there with great lasers (here’s one lilnk…scroll to TownsonMale’s post: http://cosmeticenhancementsforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4106) Another is Alternative Health Associates in Alexandria Virginia.

Thanks a lot LAgirl. That was very helpful.
I did not know that there are clinics with both types of lasers and now I have 2 choices. That is great. I am thinking of telling them to use the Yag on Neck ( that is usually more tanned over the years although inadvertently) and the Gentlease on the larger back and shoulders area that is relatively white.

of course i will see what they recommend first.

Many thanks again. PS: any further recommendations from other posters who know the area could also be valuable.

You should let THEM decide what to use. You should find a clinic where you feel comfortable that THEY’re making the right expert decisions. Check out several clinics before you decide on anything too. We recommend free consultations at 3-4 clinics to compare things. Use the link below to find other clinics near you.
