Laser/Electrolysis rec in LA for East Indian girl

Starting a new thread like LAgirl suggested. I have searched through the threads but cannot seem to find a recommendation for laser on the face for East Indian women in Los Angeles. No one seems to use the Yag! I have had success in the past with Photolysis on my legs at the Institute of Laser Medicine but the nurse I used to go to is now gone and I’m no longer getting a good vibe at that place.

LAgirl is recommending electrolysis to the face and I am open to that but I have had scarring in the past from it so I am cautious.

So if anyone knows of a laser person or electrologist in Los Angeles that has had success on East Indian skin please let me know. Thank you.

Did I post this in the wrong place? Please remove, I will repost this under California. Sorry.

It’s fine to post here. There are literally hundreds of clinics in Los Angeles. You’re not looking for them correctly. Please see the third link below where I outline ways to find a clinic and provide links. Some of the brand names of Yag lasers include: GentleYAG, Apogee Elite, Coolglide, GentleMAX, Sciton. Any of these fit your needs.

HOWEVER, unless you have patches of seriously coarse dense hair, i.e. beardlike growth, you should ONLY consider electrolysis. Laser on finer hair on a woman’s face can induce MORE growth instead of removing the hair. That’s why it’s not recommended unless you have male-like beard growth.

There are lots of electrologist recommendations here for Los Angeles as well. Just run a search for the city using Advanced Search at the top right of this page and make sure to select “results for up to 2 years” or so.

Btw, the place you went to uses a very bad IPL machine and charges crazy prices. It’s exactly the type of place we recommend to stay away from. They advertise like crazy and lie about the type of results one should expect.

Thanks so much LAgirl. So what exactly was bad about the machine? Thanks.

Also, I went to someone who is quoting my $275/ session for chin (LAgirl mine is unfortunately like how you described). Is that normal or too much?

The FAQs below explain everything about the machines. Please read them.

Once again, you need to figure out if you need laser OR electrolysis FIRST.

I decided I need laser first. So is $275/ session too much?

Oh sorry I see the pricing there. Thanks!

I don’t think laser is the right choice for your face. As I said before, your skin type is prone to induced growth. That means that you can end up with more hair that you started with. Only hair that is as coarse and dense as your bikini line hair should be treated. If you don’t have that on your face, you should go straight for electrolysis.

And yes, $275 per session for just some chin is a lot. Most charge less for treating an entire face on males.

That is definitely expensive.

I agree that laser is risky on the face. Personally, I wouldn’t get laser even if my hair WAS as coarse as bikini hair unless there was sooo much of it that it was like a full male beard. I’d go with electrolysis to be safe. The face is the one place that I just think the risk is too high. Electrolysis will be cheaper anyway, and guarantee 100% results.

I agree with LAgirl and MPK.

I think $275 would be enough to get you first clearance on your chin with electrolysis (obviously depends on the hourly rate and how much hair you have).

Providing the electrologist does good work, in the long run you’d probably save money and as MPK says, 100% results.

OK, thank you. My concern with electrolysis is that last time I got it in 2002 on my upper lip, it resulted in scabbing and dark pigmentation. I went to 3 different electrologists, and always got scabs regardless.

There are so many electrologists in LA, that you can find one that is good, has a good machine, and won’t leave you with side effects like this. I recommend at least 3 in the referral section of this forum. Machine and skill are important.

Laser and electrolysis are not substitutes. Laser only works on certain type of hair. So you’re not choosing what’s easiest for you. You should choose based on what would actually work.

OK, I just went to see Tina Reynolds yesterday and we did a test run. Crossing my fingers for no dark pigmentation, but I can already see the difference between Tina and the other electrologists’ methods and am getting a good vibe (knock on wood). Thank so much for your help. I do really appreciate your warnings and hope I can do electrolysis. I will look for general recs for electrolysis to make sure I am doing good aftercare.

LA Girl,I have been doing searches but am not yet successful. Can you point me to/ tell me what you recommend for aftercare (eg, witchhazel, aloe, etc)?

Just found a thread where you say witch hazel during the day and tea tree oil at night. Do you think aloe during the day is also fine?

I find witch hazel during the day and tea tree oil at night best. Don’t put too much stuff in genral. Less is more. Also, avoid using things with chemicals until things heal, i.e. lotions, moisturizers, facewashes, etc.

Also, it’s best to tackle electrolysis aggressively when you start, i.e. have long treatments in the beginning so that you clear the entire area when you leave the treatment. Then only come in when new hair pops up and clear it again.

Just to be clear, I think LAgirl means avoid anything with HARSH chemicals (surfactants for example). Witch Hazel and Tea Tree Oil are comprised of chemicals of course (as is plain water, and every other substance in the universe, however brutal or gentle), so you can’t LITERALLY avoid chemicals.

Thank you. LA girl, did you start using the witch hazel right after the treatment, or do you do nothing to the area until the next day? I think I misread something I saw and put the tea tree oil on right after my treatment. Will this be harmful?

I used witch hazel during the day and tea tree oil only at night. Tina has some great white cream stuff that she puts on after the treatment which I found amazing (something Canadian…I don’t recall the name).

It’s not harmful to use tea tree oil whenever. It’s just very potent and smells, so I find it best at night and in small quantities.
