laser back hair removal

Hi
I’ve just completed a course of 6 laser hair removal treatments on my back in London.

I’m skin type 2

They used a Cynosure apogee elite on the following settings

Alexandrite
Fluency 17j/cm2
pulse wifdth 20ms
rep rate 1.5 hz
spot size 15mm
(wavelength 755 nm)

The original therapist was talking about increasing the fluency to 18 by the end of the treatments but she has now left and because my skin inflames a lot during the treatment they are reluctant to increase the setting, even my back returns to normal in a few hours.

I’m now trying to work out whether to stick with them or try an alternative provider. The six treatments spanning 7 months have had a considerable impact, but i’m wondering whether to go with a different clinic who say they use a candela gentlelase which they claim is the “most effective and most expensive hair removal laser on the market”

I’d like to know what people make of the settings that have been used on me so far, and whether the candela gentlase is more effective than the apogee elite.

Thanks

Hi:

If you are skin type II you can definitely tolerate higher energies. Pulse width of 20 ms is too high, they should have lowered your pulse width to 5 ms after your first session. Both Gentlelase and Apogee are quite effective however I would definitely keep the pulse width at the lowest end ( 5 ms on Elite or 3 ms on Gentlelase )

See the post I just made with pics of my results using GentleLase on my facial hair.

I am a type I skin and I can tolerate up to 12mm spot / 36 fluence with no adverse effects (using 3ms pulse width as Romeo also suggests). There is considerable more pain during treatment with higher fluence but for me the redness still fades within a few hours and everything is perfectly fine.

I would suggest you have them do a test spot with 15mm / 30 fluence, that setting worked much better for me compared to 18mm spot / 20 fluence which did nothing on my facial hair.
