Laser and Blond hair...

My friend is interested in doing LHR after he learned that I’m in the process myself. But I told him that because his chest hair is blond that he is not a candidate for LHR but only electrolysis can help him.
He pointed out some articles that claim that “newer” lasers and some dyeing techniques for blond hairs are just as effective these days. Has anyone heard of this?
So then I was also thinking If the claim that laser doesn’t kill blond hairs at all, how come I myself noticed that my blond hairs did shed together with dark hairs during my treatment?

Most hairs are supposed to shed, but the blonde ones aren’t killed properly. IPL/VPL machines are sometimes touted as being able to remove blonde hairs but I don’t think it’s a very accurate statement. Dye shouldn’t help since dyeing hair only affects the hair above the surface, but below the surface, where you WANT the laser, will still be blonde and the laser wont target. So the dye would have to some how affect the hair below the surface of the skin :S

Also, there aren’t any “new” lasers. Only new products using the same lasers.

Yeah in general all hair will shed but fine and blonde hair don’t absorb enough energy to kill it permanently.

Several companies have attempted to make machines that would treat blond hair, but those attempts proved useless. They market it in that way, but we have yet to see anyone ever get results on blond hair. At conferences, they call those gimmicks.

The only blond hair that can be affected by laser is the type that has a dark root. That may be what you had.

There are NO real ways for laser to kill blonde hair currently.

There are some secretive trials going on (in Canada if I remember correctly) that involve a solution that DOES properly dye the insides of follicles. I even heard that the dye goes into all dormant follicles as well so one treatment gives 100% results instead of 6-8 treatments.

This is all hearsay and rumors though. Nothing at all has been published.

There are a few companies that advertise they can kill light hair, but they’ve never proven it. All the anecdotal and scientific evidence says they are exaggerating.

Is this “secretive trial” about Meladine? That’s what I read online that Meladine spray turns blond hair roots into dark pigments.

I wonder how well Meladine works, since it seems like it would be beneficial for everyone since everyone has some hairs that are lighter and finer than others.

Meladine is not a secret. It just doesn’t work because it doesn’t change the color of what’s important, the root of the hair that’s in the follicle. It only dyes the part above the skin’s surface, which is irrelevant for laser hair removal.

No I don’t think so. The solution I’m referring to doesn’t have a name yet as far as I know. It is not being developed by a company. Just a private citizen who likes to invent things I guess. He came up with something on a whim and tested it at salons and much later there was supposedly still a perfectly bald test patch after just one treatment. So he started recruiting new voluntary test subjects online.

I don’t even know if that story is TRUE, but since he’s not trying to sell anything, just trying to get a more scientific analysis, there is a chance it’s not a scam. But who really knows.
