Just tried electrolysis

Hi everyone! I was actually on this forum about 10 years ago – struggling with the same problem that I’m still struggling with – female UFH. I’ve tried pretty much everything at this point – shaving, plucking, epilating (Yes, I’ve epilated my face – ouch!), Vaniqa – everything except laser, cause I don’t have the right hair color for it. Otherwise, I would’ve tried that, too. I even tried do-it-yourself electrolysis … for about five seconds. (The art of trying to remove one single hair took about … a week!) And it grew right back because I stunk at it. Anyway… I’m done with it. I’m not gonna suffer with this anymore. So I’m putting all my hope in electrolysis. (Ummmm…by someone who knows what they’re doing – not me. :-))

For some reason, I had this idea that it costs a million dollars or something. I’m not sure where I got that. But for some reason, I’d always thought electrolysis was for rich people. Anyway, found out that wasn’t true. So worked up my courage and called someone.

Just had my second appointment. Feeling hopeful. Didn’t seem to hurt any more than plucking.

Face was pink for about a half hour, but was normal color by the time I had driven home.

Developed some little pimple-like bumps afterward that I was worried about, but she took my phone call right away and had me describe them and told me it’s OK – just a slightly sensitive reaction that’ll clear up like acne. She looked at it today, and re-confirmed that the little pimple-like things are not alarming. Gave me some free skincare stuff to help minimize it for next time. They aren’t bad enough to notice unless you’re looking closely. So as long as they’ll go away at some point, I’m cool.

And best of all – none of the hair from my first appointment returned. And it notmally would be all back by now, if I had plucked.

So I’m really hoping!

The type she’s using is called “Apilus” – can’t say how it compares to others, cause I’ve never done this before.

And don’t yet know whether I recommend electrolysis! We’ll see!

But I can say that some of the part I was worried most about – like letting the hairs grow to a teeny bit of length and then letting a stranger see much there was – and feeling embarrassed – that really wasn’t a big deal. I only had to let them grow for three days for her to have enough to work with. I plastered makeup over it to survive until my appointment  – and there was no sign of horror on her part when she saw. I guess electrolysists have pretty much seen it all.

Anyway, wish me luck! And if anyone else is just trying for the first time, please drop in with how it’s going for you!

Imagine after 10 years, you are back here. Well 10 years from now, I expect that this will be a distant memory. I wish you luck, and the peace and freedom that my clients often describe when they are coming to the end of their treatment. I am excited for you and do keep us updated here.

Congratulations!! I’m about to start on my own electrolysis journey, so it’s good to hear from people who are beginners too. Hope it all works out for you.

I’m also struggling with letting the hair grow before an electrolysis session. I’ve even arranged to take 2 days off from work, imagine that.

BTW, you said you’re a female UFH. Can you explain UFH please?
thanks,
Hank

Yes, what does UFH mean?

Most electrologists only need about 1/16"- 1/8" of hair growth. You can clip in between with a small scissor. In the beginning, when the treatments can be the roughest if you are going for full clearance, taking a couple days off is a good idea.

UFH = unwanted facial hair

Anonymous, you are in good company, the typical electrolysis client. Spend many years, lots of energy and money and finally come to the realization that electrolysis is the answer for UFH. You will wonder why you didn’t start the electrolysis process sooner, better late than never. Best of luck to you!

Oh, yes – UFH is unwanted facial hair – sorry!

Hankm, I totally understand not wanting to be seen in public in the days when you have to let it grow out a tad. If you’re like me … you probably normally never let the stuff see the light of day – by any means necessary!

But I got a makeup that’s designed for covering tattoos! And when she said she’s gonna need just a little hair to grab, I put the tattoo makeup on my face to cover the hair until the appointment. That way people just think, “Her makeup is WAY too caked-on-looking. Oh well. I think I won’t tell her …” I’d rather have them thinking I’m bad at makeup than that I have hair there!

But I can already tell that this isn’t going to be an issue for very many appointments. After each appointment, I have less to hide the next time.

What kind of a machine will yours be using, Hankm? I’ll be curious to know whether you think it hurts. I’d heard that electrolysis hurts, but I didn’t think it did. Not more than plucking. I’ll be curious about your experience!

Thank you for the good wishes, electrolady!
