Just started LHR, quick question

Hi all, after reading other people’s experiences with laser on this and other sites, I was convinced to try it for myself and had my first treatment today. I’m only treating my underarms for now, if I get good results I will move onto other areas. I’ll share my results here as the treatments progress, and I really hope I have good news to share with you all in the future!

So onto my question. I am very pale, skin type II, and have coarse black hair, and the laser they used on me today was GentleLASE and settings were 14 joules at 18mm. So I’m wondering if those are good settings to start out at?

14 joules sounds low, but they may be working you up to 18 joules? or 20 joules.

It should work well on this area, but some areas are more challenging and risky to treat, so consider that information if you decide to do other areas.

Everything sounds good. Looking forward to your posts. 14j on 18mm is fine on first treatment. The max is 20j on 18mm, so the closer they can get to that, the better. You want to make sure to kill as much as possible from the start while the hair is coarse, so using as high of settings as your skin can handle is important. With your skin type, you should be able to handle higher.

Let us know how shedding goes.

Hey all, just wanted to give an update.

After my first treatment I started to notice shedding after 2 weeks, and there was a period where I didn’t have to shave at all which was awesome. Only about 80% of it shed though, and what was left wasn’t growing. So I’m not sure if that means it worked, but the hair just wouldn’t fall out?

I had my second treatment two weeks ago, this time at 16 joules and all of the hair had completely shed after one week, and now I’m enjoying the wonderful hair-free period again! Can’t wait until my next treatment.

You are seeing the benefits of good settings. Treat at highest your skin can safely handle to guarantee permanent removal.
