Just had laser treatment

Hi! I have skin type II and just had my first laser hair removal session on my sideburns, chin, and upper lip. I have dark hair in all these areas.

I just had the treatment and now I am confused. Am I supposed to wait for this shedding? I normally shave it daily and if I wait for 3 weeks for it to fall out on its own how can I even go out in public? I will look like a hairy mess.

Am I just supposed to leave it alone and suffer with the hair? Or is shaving ok to do?

PS it was a lightshear diode laser

Oh, and how long does treatment normally take? The tech went in a straight line on my upper lip and that was really quick. They all seemed pretty quick and I could smell the hair burning and there was redness (still is) afterwards but I wonder if there should be more? Or if they should have treated for a longer period of time?

  • Do you know settings that were used? Can you find out? Spot size, pulse, and joules used

  • It matters if the hair is coarse, not just whether it’s dark. Is any of it truly coarse?

  • Wait and see what happens first. Hair is supposed to come out to shed. You can shave, though it can slow down the shedding process a bit. Shaving is fine though.

  • Part of the reason why we recommend electrolysis for this area is exactly due to the issue you describe. Electrolysis removes the hair right then and there. Also, laser doesn’t work well on women’s facial hair that’s not coarse. And it can actually make the hair more coarse if high settings are not used and they’re treating finer hairs. So make sure they don’t, and keep low expectations of results.

  • How long a treatment is depends on how much hair you have, how big the area is etc. Upper lip only needs a few zaps, so it takes 2 mins.

definitely course!! Course and dark. Thanks for the reply.
I don’t know how large of an area they did but I think the setting was 30
