Isolaz questions

Hello I posted this on HairTell first and then thought it might fit in better here. Any advise is appreciated.

I’m 32 yrs old, latina with light color skin. I’ve always had very thick hair on my legs and underarms. In my teenage years I started to grow hair on my chin and upper lip.

I started permanent hair removal on my chin and upper lip only with Isolaz/Aesthera about 7 weeks ago. I have had a total of 3 sessions. My doctor told me I only needed about 5 or 6 sessions to see full results. However I have not noticed any change. He tells me to be patient but thats easier said than done, especially because I was told not to tweeze the hair during the procedure.

Should I be seeing some kind of results by now?

Also I wanted to know (since I cannot pull them with tweezers) how will shaving affect the Isolaz procedure?

And last but definitely not least what are your thoughts on Isolaz? I’ve read through some of the posts on this forum and there is very little mention of it.

Thx

Hiya,

As far as I know, Isolaz is an IPL and predominately used for skin rejuvenation.

Here is a recent post by another user:

I have heard of it from one other person, again, who it didn’t work for and they were inquiring about electrolysis.

Everything else is just wrong. 3 session in 7 weeks? You should only have had 1 session of ‘real’ Laser and be preparing for your second. In that case, 1-2 weeks after your treatment, the hair would all shed, taking about a week to complete shedding. Then you would be hair free for a few weeks, before the next lot of growth starts to come through. You would then go for your second appointment when it seems like all that next lot of growth has come through, which can take a few weeks. Also, with true Laser, you would be required to shave the hair prior to appointments, so in between appointments you can shave as much as you like. No root removal though.

Many consider this machine to be a gimmick. Are you stuck in a package or can you switch?

Please read our FAQs below to learn what the best laser options for you are.

Also, do you have coarse dense growth on your face? If not, laser won’t work. Hair needs to be coarse.

Treatments should be spaced 8-12 weeks apart. The entire process is wrong. If treatments are working, treated hair is supposed to shed within 3 weeks.

Thank you for your quick response!!!
I must say I am very disappointed. I wish I would’ve found this forum before I jumped into this.

Luckily I have not purchased a plan, I pay as I go.

The hair on my chin are coarse, but the hair on my upper lips and sides are not, however they look like what the hairs on my chin looked like a few year. They look like they get a little bit more coarse as the years go by. But right now im just focusing on the hairs on my chin which is where I really need this.

Has anyone heard of laser treatment called Lyra? If so what are your thoughts on it. Someone reccomended Dr. Jeanine Downie at http://www.imagedermatology.com/

But before I try anyone again I’m really going to do my homework. I live in Northern NJ. If anyone knows a place they can reccomend around here I would greatly appreciate it.

I’m so greatful I found this forum.

Wow, if you look at your site, doesnt look very trustful and proffesional…

She uses GentleLase, should be the best one - 18mm handpiece and at 18-20J/mm2 every 8-10weeks should be fine if the hair is coarse and black like the underarm hair…

But electrolysis should be better for facial hair - but the practitioner has to have exceptional skill - if not, results will be limited…

And about the patience - they say you to be patient because they need to get as much money as it is possible to get - its not serious to go for treatments every 2,5weeks, up to 6th week you shouldnt have any hair at all…

Lyra is an IPL too I believe. Another waste of money.

If you are skin type I-II you need an Alexandrite Laser (GentleLaser, Apogee Elite/MPX etc).

If you are type IV and above, you need a YAG laser.

I would only treat the coarse chin hairs with laser, and even then you need to know of the risk of laser induced growth and that you may get more growth in areas which you don’t have at the moment, where the laser touches.

Also, just because the chin hairs became thicker, it doesn’t mean the upper lip and sideburn hairs will too. Unless you are doing root removal (plucking, waxing, threading) they will probably stay the same. These are better removed with electrolysis.

Lyra is actually a Yag and not a good one. It typically has a very small spot size.

You should look for clinics based on what machine they have (you need to determine your skin type and which you need) and then go for consultations so you can find a clinic who’s aggressive.

NJ has a law where only MDs are allowed to treat. This can make prices expensive. Many MDs also don’t exclusively focus on hair removal and don’t really know what they’re doing when it comes to it. You want someone who treats people specifically for LHR all day every day.

Can you post a photo? VERY FEW women have hair coarse enough to treat and impact with laser on their face. Also, there is risk of stimulating MORE hair. Most women need electrolysis instead.

There is another poster on this forum from NJ, so you can ask him for recommendations. Or run a search here for New Jersey. I know clinics in NYC if that’s not too far.

It would be great if you could post a photo here. We can save you a lot of money of the hair is not coarse or dense enough to be treated. Generally, unless you have male pattern growth coarse beard, it’s not. Electrolysis removes 5-10 hairs per minute.

My bad!

wow… glad I came across this one. My second consult uses the IsoLaz. She also tried to push waxing (um… no… I don’t care how quick you do it I don’t want it!). As per the above the cost was…thud. And I got nailed for a charge for consult :P. She did do test spots though.

So so far I’ve visited two places that use IPL. sigh
