Is this a scar from electrolysis or will this heal

I got electrolysis (blend) done for the first time 9 days ago on my cheeks.

It seems like there is some scarring or pits on the skin and I want to know if this will go away with time. The pores are red but also enlarged.

Based on the pictures, how deep do you think these blemishes are and what are my options in terms of treatments to get rid of them.

Did you experience anything concerning in the few days directly after treatment?

Your skin only nine days following treatment is not going to be the final appearance regardless of whether you have been scarred or not. There are natural and normal healing processes taking place whether the treatment was performed properly or performed poorly. You can continue with a gentle skincare routine if you like. Other than that, there is nothing for you to do while your skin heals on its own time.

I think your skin will return to normal within the next few months.

I agree with thermo. What you are seeing is normal skin healing. I see nothingg of concern in your picture.I wonder why you are so nervous? Generally anxiety with regards to skin reaction does not help you but it may hinder you from seeking further treatments.

All looks fine. Give it a chance to heal.

Thank you for the reply.

During the treatment, I felt she had to go over some hair twice and also felt tugging a couple of times. Also, for some follicles it was quite painful.

When I checked online, most people said redness fades within hours or a day.

For me, there’s still red dots.

Here is a picture in better lighting from today. I also see post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on one side.

Thank you for the update. There isn’t anything about the treatment that sounds concerning. We sometimes have to treat follicles twice, and the tugging could simply be your electrologist trying to remove the hair and realising it needs to be treated again. Treating follicles on the face is usually more painful or uncomfortable, but if your electrologist had truly overtreated you, it would be quite obvious with your skin reaction immediately following treatment.

Where most clinics say “redness fades within a day”, they’re typically referring to the very apparent “sunburnt” look that appears across the treatment area. You can expect redness around the treated follicles to persist for a few days, to a week or more depending on several factors.

Any discolouration remaining after that point is, as you say, PIH, which I can see on both sides of your face. PIH is basically a guarantee for every client to at least some degree. Some will get it worse than others due to ethnicity and skin tone, the energy levels during treatment, the area being treated etc. Some will only have mild PIH. The good news is that it always fades over time, and you don’t need to do anything to fix it.

As others said above, you have nothing to worry about. If you want to prove it to yourself, you can wait for your skin to return to normal before you continue with any more treatments.

Hey Thermo,

I appreciate the quick reply and the help here!

I didn’t realize they meant the sunburnt look when they said redness. That’s good to know. It’s been 10 days for me and you can see the red dots - I guess you’re saying that’s normal.

In terms of the hyperpigmentation, I did already read that it would go away.

Insofar as the dots/enlarged pores that are visible, will those become normal again? Sounds like you expect everything to recover. Any idea on how long it would take?

I am not planning on getting more treatments. This was meant to be a test - I was planning on getting my mustache shaped so I wouldn’t have to line it up often but it was more for convenience. I don’t think this is a good option for me given the recovery time. I don’t want to have my skin looking like this for extended periods of time.

If your healing follows normal healing pattern, you won’t scars.

Whatever you see first few weeks straight after electrology procedure is what already there.

If you are healing normally, you won’t scar

But if you were over-treated/under-treated, you can end up scarring permanently.
Scar won’t form or appear suddenly from thin air out of nothing, but there are continuous cascade skin events that eventually lead to it, meaning you won’t heal properly after the electrology procedure.

With your skin type PIH is not avoidable, it’s going to be part of the process of natural healing process. This PIH will resolve itself after your treatments are finished. What skin aftercare has your electrologist recommended to you?
