Is there hope?

Hello.
This is my first post, so a little about myself. I’ve been a hairy guy all my life, legs, chest, stomach, arms, full beard. I’m 22, and for the past couple years i’ve had to shave the nape of my neck, no biggie. however, it seemed like the day i turned 22 i started to notice course hairs popping up around my upper and lower back, and now i’ve noticing what used to be just peach fuzz on my back is turning into full out back hair, and by the looks of it, i’m going to have a ton of it. I’ve tolerated all the hair on my body, i refuse to shave it anymore, i just trim it and try to not think about it, but i cannot deal with hair on my back. even as right now its only small patches beginning to grow its just irritating and i find its unattractive. anyway, I’ve kind of been anticipating this, because i’m just so hairy it was inevitable, and i’ve been saving money and have been using this site to try to attain as much information as possible on laser hair removal. But i don’t know how to take my first step. Of course i don’t want to be spending a fortune on it, but i also realize it won’t be cheap. I was wondering if it makes more sense to wait until all the hair is grown in before i begin to tackle this problem? or can laser hair removal be done as a preventative measure on all the peach fuzz that will eventually become courser?

Laser works best on coarse, dark hair. It does not work on peach fuzz. Get the areas treated with the coarse hair and leave the peach fuzz. If it gets coarse you can always treat it at a later time.

Don’t wait too long to get laser treatments. Eventually, maybe even in your 30s, the hair will turn white or gray, and you will not be able to treat it with laser.

When I started laser treatments, I had so much chest hair that I could hardly see my skin. After one laser treatment I had a 50% reduction, and 8 treatments later I was 90% hair free. I finished up with electrolysis. I had similar results on my back.

Yes, there is hope.

RCJ2001, what are all the area’s you’ve had treated? I know about full legs and bread, and now chest. Is that all or are there more areas? And with what lasers/IPL (I know about Harmony and Sciton, but what else)? Sorry if you’ve mentioned this all before.

I have had my entire upper body done, to include back and arms. My arms are not as hair free as I would like, but I have reduced the hair on them, especially the uppers.

I have used the Apogee, Lightsheer, Iridex Apex 800 diode,Sciton, and Lyra-i lasers. As far as IPL, I have used the Aurora (with RF), Harmony, Quadra Q4, and Prowave 770.

I have also had and am having electrolysis.

Until earlier on today I knew nothing about Laser Hair Removal (how it works, for who and why and so on). Today I have decided to do some research and found this website and forum (very useful, by the way).

Having done a bit of research, my understanding is that Laser does not work on light hair. However, I was having a look at permanent hair removal clinics in Ireland and I have found a British clinic that apparently is in business for more than 20 years (The Harley Medical Group is recognised as a leader in laser hair removal in the UK. We have carried out over 70,000 treatments to date… )

I am not trying to advertise these guys or anything like that, so, sorry admin if it seems so, but, if you have a look at their website, they have a little banner that says that now they are able to treat blonde, grey, white and vellus hair.

So what is the reality? Are these guys using cutting edge technology or its all bull***? They seem legit (they have been in the cosmetic surgery industry for 22 years, have 11 clinics…).

Any ideas?

sorry I keep editing this post, but I have found something…

Check this out guys:

Anyone heard of Meladine?

Its a natural melanin enhancer (derived from squid ink)… Apparently, 2 weeks before the treatment follicles are sprayed with Meladine =>> helps the laser to zap the hair.

Google it if you want to learn more. You can purchase it online (as I have just found).

Im afraid Ill upset Admin with my links…

mucci, just read your post and wanted to say im currently having treatment on my upper arms, im also 22, like you i could see previously vellus hair becoming coarser as i matured. But rather then waiting I decided to have treatment as soon as I could afford it.

According to my practitioner, Meladine doesn’t work.

I see… Interesting…

I am not quite willing to start experimenting if there is no feedback available on new things like this…

I have to say though; I am surprised that the topic hasn’t really been discussed in this place.

AW

thanks for all the responses, i’m planning on starting laser soon, i’ll keep everyone posted on my results

andiwade,

I’d say it is probably bull. There are laser centers in the U.S. that say they can treat any color hair with laser (it supposedly adds radio frequency to kill non-black hairs, ha ha) and will give 2 years of touch ups if needed. However, if you research the laser that’s used and try to find anyone that’s had success, you’ll probably not find any legit responses. Those poor souls will give up going and going again for two years with no results, so it’s not like the laser center is going to be giving much away for free and the client ends up with little to show for their money. Just because a business has carried out lots of treatments for a long time, doesn’t mean that they have a high success rate.

For light hairs or dark skin, electrolysis is the best way to go.

This is exactly why there are questions about laser in general, due to clinics like this who will advertise whatever it takes to get customers and their money. It won’t work. Stick with the facts on this site and your gut feeling. In general, a good rule to follow is if it sounds like they’re embellishing what they’re saying to get you in the door, they probably are. Be a smart consumer to avoid issues <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
