Is there any way to avoid paradoxical LHR regrowth

Hi guys,

I had 3 treatments of LHR in the summer. Good results in between treatments.

But now, 3 months later it’s almost as if I never had the treatments done.

I suppose I need to do at least 6 before I can complain though.

I am an Indian male and have brown skin.

I feel as though I have had some regrowth but I can’t tell for sure.

Need to know the laser used, settings, what type of hair, spacing between treatments, shedding info, etc before we can advise.

5-6 weeks between treatments.

3 treatments.

Coarse black beard hair. Not mustache or chin. Just cheeks and sides under neck.

Shedding occurred at 2 week mark generally.

I think I was at a ‘10’ using a Candela GentleYAG.

Probably not quite long enough between treatments to catch the highest amount of hair possible - that is one strategy that can be really important when getting LHR.
This leads to the other issue at play here - you may just be showing a new cycle of hair growth, nothing that the LHR actually removed. You probably wont see that hair again, but you won’t notice it until that time.

I had a few sessions of LHR on my upper lip a few years ago, as well as some electrolysis over a very short period of time. At some times, I can see maybe 10 terminal hairs on my upper lip. Other times, it can be 30 or so actively growing.

Hope this helps

  • How much of the hair shed each time?

  • “10” doesn’t say much. We need spot size, pulse width, and joules used. If either spot size or joules were “10”, that’s really really low for this machine.

  • In terms of paradoxical growth, that’s not really an issue for most people. It’s an issue when treating fine and sparse hair. If you only treat patches of coarse growth, it shouldn’t be a factor.

Isn’t 5 to 6 weeks in between treatments the norm?

My beard is kind of patchy as it is because years ago I had LHR w/ a LightSheer (wrong for my skin type I now know, but didn’t at the time + the doctor didn’t know what he was doing either).

I’ll try to get more info.

Based on the study I read, my understanding of paradoxical regrowth is that people w/ dark skin and dark hair are at a higher risk since we cant tolerate high energy.

So the low pulse/energy doesn’t destroy the ‘germal’(wrong word but close I think) hair layer or something.

I tended to leave a minimum of 8 weeks, to around 12 weeks, when I was getting LHR.

Many clinics will pressure clients to visit every 4 or 5 weeks as this gets them more money. I used to get out of it by saying that I was really busy and didn’t know in advance when I would be available.
