Is the thinning of hair permanent?

Hi. I know Laser can permanently remove hair but often times I hear people talk about how the hair didn’t realy go away but it became much thinner. Now, I am just wondering if this effect of te laser is also permanent? Or does the hair eventually go back to its original thickness?

If treatments are done correctly at good settings, it’s permanent.

I agree with LAgirl. You should see a growth reduction like ErinHailey said.

Yeah but I mean some of the hair grows back much less coarse and noticable and like it’s often been said, it becomes too thin for further laser treatment.
In a worst case scenario where treatments did not remove hair, I would still be happy if the hair just became thin instead, but I would not want them to become thick again after some time.

I find you have to be careful if your goal is to thin. My arm hair was fairly coarse, but had a slight curl to it. After 5 laser sessions the hair grows back much thinner but it’s REALLY straight no waviness or curls at all so it almost looks a bit weird. Some people have hair that naturally looks like this but it definitely doesn’t look like it did before.

It’s definitely not my goal though. But it would be better than the treatment having zero effect.

I’m kind of wondering the science behind this. With a good treatment the hair follicle is destroyed, right. But when the hair becomes thinner, did the follicel shrink or something. lol might sound stupid I don’t know.

If the follicle is not damaged permanently, it can still be damaged to a lesser extent. Depends on settings, how coarse the hair was, etc.

Generally, when the hair gets less dense, it appears finer too. You can achieve the look you want that way.
