is electrolysis the next step?

hi everyone,

i had LHR done about 8 yrs ago(over a 2 yr period). A yag was used but i cant remember the settings. i had about 20 treatments done(all over the body).A lot of clearance was obtained after about 6/8 treatments but i fell into the trap of thinking that i could get rid of all the hair using laser. The nurse was ignorant as LHR was a new thing in London.
i have sparse hair growing over all the areas that i had lasered.
it seems that from reading the advice given to others, that electrolysis is the appropriate next step.

here are some links to pics showing the hair:

any advice would be appreciated.

ps im not sure whether this is the right place to post this!

Electrolysis is seriously the best.
That’s why I didn’t do laser, but I did do electrolysis.

As we have said, they typically have to “Finish With Electrolysis”

You got that right, James. Business is good, isn’t it?

David, I concur that electrolysis will get you exactly where you want to go finally. How come you didn’t do the middle abdomen or “the line”?

Do you have a skilled electrologist in mind that can handle all those hairs?

i wasnt daring enough to go for the completely hairless upper body. considering how hairy i was, i wanted to go for a more realistic look. although achieving more definition may push me to go all the way,
im currently in india undergoing a bone operation(having decided to leave the uk for a significant period). i plan to find an electrologist in mumbai in 2008/9 after fully recovering from my op.
any thoughts on how long it would take to zap each of those three areas(in one sitting)?

Even after seeing an area, time questions always depends on the practitioners skill and what modality she/he uses. It also depends on your tolerance for the sensation of electrolysis. Some areas are a breeze and some are ouchy. With that said, I should not be estimating all these areas over the internet for your particular case.

If you were my client, I would use MICROFLASH THERMOLYSIS straight up in order to get a first full clearance asap. I would continue with microflash for the remainder of treatments as well as most men seem to like microflash as oppossed to other methods a lot better.

Recently, we had a poster from India who was very frustrated because she wanted electrolysis and could not find very many pracitioners. The ones she found were pathetic and did not demonstrate hygienic measures. She was told that electrolysis is outdated and laser is the way to go. If any country needs electrolysis, it’s India! And, of course we know that electrolysis is still the gold standard for removing ALL hair colors on ALL skin colors. So, I don’t know what you will find??? Could you let us know later on when you are ready to pursue electrolysis in India what you find out? One request: please come back to this thread so we keep the story in one, easy place.

Are there no doctors in the UK that can do bone surgery? I’m curious but, if you don’t want to answer, that’s quite okay. You know you can find several great electrologists in the UK and can get going sooner perhaps.

Thanks and good luck with your surgery.

Dee

hi dee,

thanks for the info with regards to the type of electrolysis that ought to be used.
to enlighten you a little; i have decided to leave the UK to embark on surgery to increase my height.the cost would multiply(by 4) in the West. as you can imagine, it has been the most important decision of my life. i have to stay in India for about 5 yrs in all(including recovery) so i plan to get comfortable living here. i speak hindi which makes things slightly easier.
my plan, with regards to shedding the hair, is to try and do it in india. if it proves unsuccessful, then i will do it when i get back to the West.

concerning the hygiene issue: it depends whether you can adapt to the obviously lower standards in a poorer country(it was difficult at first but im getting used to it). hygiene is less important than whether the electrologist is skilled and possesses the right equipment.

ps dee, you’re not related to jeff are you(hehe)?

I’ve heard of some relationship with the east coast fahey clan, so maybe there is some kinship with both Jeff and Damien Fahey. We are all brothers and sisters under the skin, right? If Barak Obama and Dick Cheney are eighth cousins, then heck, I could be kin to Jeff and Damien, by marriage only. On the other side of the family, I am told my distant cousin is Attila the Hun.

On a serious note, I wish you much success on your surgeries. Let us know how your hair removal goals pan out in the future.

Take care,

Dee

Looks like you got great results with laser. But yes, it is time to switch to electrolysis if you want every single sparse hair removed now. Doesn’t look like you have a lot left, but finding a fast experienced electrologist will make things go smoothly. Make sure to have longer treatments more frequently up front to clear the area, so that you only come in to get the new hairs as they pop up while they’re still weak.

dee: I am told my distant cousin is Attila the Hun. lol

lagirl- i was unable to appreciate the hairloss i achieved straight after my treatments because i made the mistake of imagining smooth skin. falling into the trap of expecting smooth skin, meant that i went through a phase of thinking that i had wasted my money! in 1999 the treatments were expensive (i spent about $18000 in total).seeing the leftover hair grow long (black hair on lighter skin also stands out) also didnt help! a year later i was able to objectively accept that those areas had much less hair and the hair was thinner.

That is what I mean when I say that LASER sucks people in. They come in the door looking for smooth skin, and then, later after they have blown out their wallets and purses, they are explained that they should accept that they “at least got something for their money” and then are told that they should now go “Finish With Electrolysis.”

On the kinship line, I am a distant cousin of Patty LaBelle, but although my dad actually worked on her road crew, I still can’t seem to parlay that into free concert tickets and a backstage pass :frowning:

That’s the unfortunate thing about marketing and not setting the right expectations by some laser clinics in order to sell you packages and get your money. That’s why we try to give realistic expectations on this forum for each person’s skin and hair type. Most people have a combination of various hair types on their bodies on various areas. It’s important to understand the limitations of laser, especially on darker skin like yours when a less effective laser has to be used, so really you can only kill the dark coarse hair. That’s why the best approach is to select the areas with coarse hair that get good results with laser (because you would get same results with less time, money and effort than electrolysis on them) and leave the rest for electrolysis from the beginning. Some clinics, however, either knowingly or just blindly try to treat everything and promising clients the world. That’s the downside of the fact that it’s a relatively new industry and many people stil don’t understand what laser does best and what it can’t do. It was really refreshing to go to my clinic and be told that they won’t treat a certain area because it’s unlikely that I would get results there. Many clinics are still too greedy or just uneducated about the subject though.

lagirl- many thanks for your insightful responses. i feel that by scrawling through your comments i have gained a huge amount of unbiased information. i will post my experience when it get’s underway.

by the way, can anyone point me to males of similar dark skin type who have posted their experiences on this forum?

you’re welcome. if you’re looking to read about laser experiences, go to the laser portion of this site. also, use the Advanced Search feature.
