Is Alexandrite more "primitive"?

I was reading the websites of some places that use LightSheer. Sometimes they call Alexandrite systems “primitive”, implying that LightSheer is more effective.

I’m of French descent, paleish skin and medium to dark brown hair colour. I’m assuming I’m type III.

On the other hand, hairtell.com says that Alexandrites (such as GentleLASE by Candela Corporation, Apogee by Cynosure) are the most effective.

Does that mean I should preferably try Alexandrite instead of LightSheer?

Are there higher long-term risks of skin cancer or similar with Alexandrites?

Sonja

Another website I found says this about Alexandrite: “Earlier lasers were 755nm lasers, however this laser is no longer commonly used, as there is a high risk of epidermal damage.”

  • Lightsheer is a diode

  • Alex lasers are more powerful than diodes. Every website/clinic is going to say their machine is the best. Look at the source and you’ll see the bias. We provide unbiased information, i.e. we get nothing out of you going with whatever machine you choose.

  • There is no risk of cancer from LHR. These lasers don’t emit any harmful radiation

  • “Epidermal damage” just means a reaction on the skin. It can be a side effect of any machine when used improperly.

  • Alexandrite lasers have the 755nm wavelength. Diodes have 810nm. Alexandrites are most powerful and effective. Of course, that also means they have highest potential for burns, but that only matters for those whose skin is not light enough, in which case they shouldn’t be used in the first place.

Honestly, I did GentleLASE on my underarms to test it out since it was cheap and my skin was lightest there. This was 2 days short of 7 weeks ago. One session only one treatment, hair only started to grow back a couple weeks ago but the strange thing is right now I have literally 10-15% of the hair I used to have. I know more will keep coming back, but when I’d do IPL, all the hair would grow back until my next session. The hairs that are back are long now and almost normal length.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying or expecting that I’ve had 85% reduction after only one session, but I told the girl I’m not coming back yet for my next session since there’s barly any hair there to zap away this time.
