In the middle of the arm and upper, I am getting a lot of infected and way too many ingrowns. I need a suggestion on the best loofa to buy or best way to prevent this. It’s really unslightly to look at and annoying. This resulted from doing electroylisis. Didn’t have them before there. Thanks.
It could be the result of improper treatment, i.e. the hairs are broken off half way on their way out. How many electrologists have you tried?
Well, it’s because I have oily skin I think. She’s the best electrologist I’ve ever had actually. I’ve had a lot of reduction from her. It’s just this area that gets a lot of ingrowns. Anyway, can somebody recommend the best loofa to buy? That’s what she recommended to help with ingrowns after I told her about the issue.
I use a product called PFBVanish for mine. Its a gel with some exfolients in it to help with ingrowns. Kind’ve expensive though.
I only once ever ( in 30 yrs ) had a client with this problem in a dramatic way. Ingrowings happened as her regrowth got finer. They seemed to curl round in little tight balls just under the surface of the skin I would gently prise them out with the tweezers and then treat them normally. Eventually as the hair stopped growing the problem seemed to disappear almost as quickly as it began. Fortunately, I had already treated many facial areas for this client, so she didn’t doubt me. I thought it more likely a dry skin issue especially as the upper arm area is one of the drier body areas.

I just did a fourth clearance on a clients legs today. Several finer hairs remained as coconnell describes. There would have been more ingrowns had it not been for the fact that the client gently exfoliates her legs every night in the shower. Not sure if she uses a mitt or something else, but it helps immensely to get in to an exfoliating regime.

DO NOT, I repeat…DO NOT purchase or use a loofah…ever.
Loofahs retain bacteria and can result in serious skin infections…mycobacterial or staph infections can occur.
There are products with little grains, there are products with AHA’s, or you can use a fresh washcloth with cleanser every day to massage the area and help prevent ingrown hairs.
