Lately I’ve been noticing that after electrolysis, I have a lot of red, scabby bumps. If I scrub them enough, I uncover hairs in the center. I asked my electrolysis if this meant that the hair wasn’t destroyed during the previous treatment and she said it was new hair. I have my doubts. It looks a lot like when I used to wax and hair would grow back in, with a lot of ingrowns. Is this normal? I’ve been going on a steady schedule since January and my electrologist options are very limited because of where I live.
This is normal. The hair should grow back because it is in different stages. The treated area will be red due to the treatment. What kind of electrolysis are you getting done?
In my experience, this should occur only in ONE per each 2000 treated hairs. And in areas like bikini line (male and female), central area of the chest and buttocks (male).
What do these hairs look like? Are they like a stubble? Or, are they slightly coiled and not stubbly? (have a soft, tapered beginning)
Bytheroots, as I promised, my client has agreed to be photographed partially in the buttocks. Treatment was initiated in September 2010 and this picture was taken today. As you can see the treated follicles have not yet fully healed. The hairs emerging after the first clearance are NOT treated hair. I’ve square in red ingrown hairs.
Thanks for the photo. I have it done pretty frequently, like every 1-2 weeks, so I still have a lot of the unhealed red spots. I’ve been using witch hazel it’s helping some. It may not be as bad as I thought. I don’t think they’re ingrown exactly, just kind of in or near the scabby areas. They are fine hairs, not stubbly at all. And there is definitely a lot less hair than when I started. I know everyone is different timeline-wise, but do you think if I keep up my schedule it should all be gone in 6 months? It’s almost been a year now since I started.
Timing depends on how you tackle it. It takes 12-18 months AFTER your first clearance if you’re consistent in keeping the area cleared at least every 3-4 weeks after the first clearance. That means, you should be leaving the treamtent with a cleared area each time.
You shouldn’t be retreating any area that still haven’t healed. That slows down the healing process.
