Ingrown Hairs (and the same old questions)

Hi All,

Firstly thanks to all the pros who’s given such amazing advice on here - it’s really given me the confidence to go for it with electrolysis, and to feel like I’m not going in totally blind. I can’t thank you enough.

My question is about ingrown hairs. I get a few of them, and when I have electrolysis they have to be extracted. Obviously I’m not expecting a blemish free result, but I can’t help but feel that my electrologist is quite rough with my face, and I think I’m coming out a lot more ‘injured’ thank I need to be. I’m not feeling plucking (though the odd gentle ‘pop’), and I know that my hair shafts are probably quite messed up from years of plucking, so even where they’re not ingrown, they might be tricky. My electrologist is lovely, but she’s not too hot on the ‘theory’ behind it all, but if she’s doing it right I suppose it doesn’t matter, she’s very convenient and I don’t want to move on if actually this is to be expected.

I haven’t seen anything in general on the site about ingrown hairs, so it would be great to get some pro-perspectives on them - how they should be approached, what to expect, etc.

I’ve attached some pictures (I think…) - these are from a day and a bit after a 30mins session. (my 4th). I did not go in with any blemishes on that part of my face.

Thanks for your help,
Y

That does look a little rough for the face. Did she have to extract a lot of ingrowns or only one or two? If the majority of that scabbing is from ingrowns I can see it,I’m not completely familiar with the process but I do understand it causes some scabbing depending on how much the electrologist needs to fuss with the skin to get the hair out. But if the majority of that is from electrolysis , I would say that is way too rough for the face.
Ideally if any scabbing does occur, it should be no bigger than a pinhead.
Now, I did suffer some very similar scabbing early on when I was doing galvanic . The good news is, it should heal over with no issues and very little if any scarring. The face has some wonderful healing qualities. But you are far better off trying to avoid that kind of reaction.

I’m a advanced DIY’er, and honestly I think some of the pro’s ( Dee?) should weigh in on this because they can give a much better opinion.

are you having galvic I am having flash and my face looks nothing like this when having the chin done its unnoticeable to others least I don’t think I might get tiny scabs or like a spot but its done 2 days after and I mean tiny this does look rough, I wouldn’t want this to happen to my face personally. I have no experience of any other treatments I am only having treatment myself but would be concerned if I had such results too.

To me (someone who is getting treatment) that is pretty bad. I have pink pin pricks in maybe 5 or 6 of the hairs that are treated in a 45 minute facial session, which disappear during the first 48 hours post treatment. These pinpricks of colour never develop into scabs, although I have had one or two “pimples” form, which are dealt with using tea tree oil.

Note that my treatment is thermolysis.

Thanks everyone - this is already very helpful. She’s using blend. And I don’t think there were that many ingrowns - certainly the larger scabs were ingrown, but there were only a few. Also, if I can get my own ingrowns out with minimal marking, surely she needn’t cause quite so much damage? The previous two sessions were not as bad as this, although still not as ‘clean’ as a lot of the photos I’ve seen others post here (even the ones saying ‘oh god this looks awful is this normal?’!).

I think it’s time to try someone else. Which is a crying shame because if this salon was any closer to my flat it would be in my bedroom…

Thanks again.

Well also being someone that does primarily blend, I can attest that that really isnt normal. I’m really no sure where all the pro’s went to, perhaps there was a free all expenses electrology conference in the Dominican or something? Why did no one tell me?

Either way it sounds like you have figured it out!
