Jsut a thought Benji, I wonder if the machines are in fact the same?
The one used on my treatments (as per the clinic’s site) is a cynosure apogee 6200. It also has a constant cold air machine on when in use.
is this the same machine?

These are different machines in the sense of the model. The machine I’m being treated with is the Cynosure Apogee Elite, where as you are using the 6200. However, the specs are relativley the same, they both have a maximum spot size of 15mm and I believe they both can go down to 5ms in regards to the pulse.
The major difference is the CYnosure Elite can utilise two different wavelengths, 1064nm and 755nm.

Benji
But the specs on the Cynosure Elite are less on each wavelength than their earlier, more powerful single wavelength lasers.
Could you tell us what specs these are? I know that the joules can only go up to 25J on the 15mm spot size, the same as the Cynosure Elite. Sorry if my knowledge is a little crude, but are there other specs that I haven’t taken into consideration?

Benji
benji - so good of you to post all this. I have read through and may have missed it but now you are well past your 6 sessions with SK:n for your back has it worked even this far since? Will you need more? How often if so? I am nervous and sceptical about the permanent hair reduction thing but your story seems to give me hope.
The density of the hair appears to have been reduced considerably, I’m estimating between a 85% - 95% reduction in total and the reminaing hairs are much finer and lighter. Although there are the spots which were missed, but the areas that have been solidly treated have responded really well.
My upper half of my body has quite fast hair cycle, by the 8th week marker I would be ready for another treatment and this was the case with both my full back and upper arms. However, my lower half e.g. my legs had much longer cycles ranging from 12 - 14 weeks before I would have been able to be treated again.
I’m going to straight for electrolysis now, the cost of the treatment weighed up with the reduction it would give is not worth it, but overall I’m glad I’ve gone through with it.
Regards,
Benji
I would give it 8 treatments on any areas that still have coarse hair before switching to electrolysis.
Are you doing electrolysis on all the areas you mentioned above now?
The hair doesn’t appear to be coarse now, it’s just a couple of little patches that were repeatedly missed, so I’d just rather clear it up with electrolysis. At the moment I’m having electrolysis on my upper cheek bones and lower neck, however when the hair returns enough I will be having it in on my upper back and shoulders, I’m leaving the hair on my lower back as the hair is so fine you could barely notice it and barely any regrowth has occurred, but we will see.
My legs and chest I will have more treatments on, however I need to wait until I start my gap year job before I can afford that.

Benji
thanks again Benji. really helpful. I have been to get quotes from a local place with IPL and one consult with Harley Medical Centre. I think I will go with Harley but they are expensive. I cant find any links to Laser-active? Do you have a website or contact info? I will avoid Sk:n based on your experience.
I believe Laser-active is now called Derma-Active.
Here’s the link:

thank you. i really appreciate it.
Hi Benj,
Sorry I have taken so long to reply. I went for my 3rd treatment on Cynosure Apogee 6200 6 weeks ago!! Can hardly believe it has been so long.
Anyhow, this time she told me that she was increasing the settings to 19j. I could definately tell she had increased the settings, but I found it more than bearable. After reading some of your earlier posts, I would just say that I have cool/freezing cold air blown ALL of the time during my treatments. However, I do not have any aloe vera applied until AFTER my treatment. I do have some red spots post treatment, but these fade within 24 hours, so long as I do not use a hot shower. I found this out the hard way the first time I had treatment! I went for a run the night after my treatment, so I had to shower. The redness was tenfold & really quite sore! Hence, I have not showered for 24 hours after my 2nd & 3rd treatments!
Finally, I wonder if someone reading this can give me some advice. Alot of the the must be affected as I have had no re-growth in 6 weeks. However, I have noticed that some areas that look hair free are not. The hair is still there but it is sooo white it is almost translucent. I keep wondering whether it is the treatments that is doing this, or whether it is just the fact that they were originally there & I did not notice amongst the mass!! I have a feeling that it is the treatments that is ‘enhancing’ this. I would rather have translucent hairs, here and there, rather than coarse black ones though! But, I was thinking, do you thinkj it would help if the settings were increased to ensure folicle destruction, rather than the hair?
Many thanks
There is a good chance that you already had light hairs mixed in with the dark ones and only now are seeing them light ones since the dark ones fell out.
Also, the problem above is more with the sweating than showering. Try to avoid sweating for a few days after the treatment. And use ice and pure aloe vera to speed up healing.
good advice about the sweating Lagirl. Now you have mentioned it I know that you are correct. Tell me, what do you think of the 19j settings? Do you think that this is strong enough on this machine?
What spot size does this model have? Do you know the pulse being used? Joules alone are not enough information to determine the strength of settings.
Hiya,
Sorry for my late reply as well. I’ve been up North visiting family. The 6200 has the capability of a 15mm spot size. If this is the case the settings are not too bad, but they higher you can go the better, but of course with it being safe for your skin. And as lagirl says, pulse is also improtant to know.
I find for about 3 days after laser treatment I would just have luke warm baths, as it doesn’t have the repeated splashing sensation. Although, the 72 hours thing is mainly down to my skin reaction to the Cynosure Apogee Elite.

Benji
So Benji, after all these months how is the back? I am noticing increased growth, not reduced growth over my first 5 treatments?
If you’re seeing induced growth, that means your hair was too fine to begin with for laser. Did you ever see shedding? Do you have pictures?
Some extra growth can also be due to your age if you’re in your 20s.
What are all the areas you’re treating? What settings? What intervals?
LAgirl - just sent you a PM with photos. Area is back and shoulders, in my 30’s, I don’t know the laser settings anymore but the last (and only) IPL setting was 24 something? I admit I went 4 times regularly (8 weeks apart) and then left it 3 months to my next IPL which worked fine but there was alot of regrowth. I have now left it another 2 months already and the photos show the current state. If going again is going to stimulate more and more then I worry. Maybe I need to go regularly for another 3-4 sessions? It is definitely finer now but there is just more of it.
IPL is much weaker than true laser, usually can take a lot more sessions to get same result with laser.
