Indian LHR - Does it last?

Hello all,

I am an Indian male - 24 yrs old. I have medium brown skin. Black hair.

I am interested in hair removal for my chest and somewhat on my stomach and then complete for my legs.

My question is, if I keep with the treatment, can I eventually not need it anymore after a certain point?

I have had LHR on my face and responded well.

Off the cuff, I’d say to definitely give it a try if your are satisfied with your face. The face is a tougher go than the chest, stomach and lower legs, so chances are you will respond even better. What type of laser was used and how long ago?

i cant remember, i used a lightsheer in 2003-04 and had a bad technician who spaced me at 2 week intervals. i got burned one time even, but evrything healed. that got rid of a lot of hair and for many years i had less growth. but in 2006-2007 i attempted it again with a proper laser for my skin type.

i only went twice, but the response was amazing. i cant remember the name of the laser but it was safe for dark skin. after the first treatment i had a lot of temp hyperpigment on my neck but it all went away.

i guess my question is, does hair eventually grow back even after you complete many many treatments?

im also worried that since im indian, after doing LHR, i may increase my hair growth on my legs

Once a follicle is damaged, meaning the blood supply is interupted, then the that particular follicle can not produce another hair, like the original hair, pre-laser. If you see hair growth, like the original structures, then it is most certainly due to NEW activity within a new follicle.

THe legs is not an area where laser hair reduction causes laser induced hair stimulation.

I’m thinking, a YAG laser was used on you in the past if they said it was for dark skin.

Why is the leg area different in that it is not susceptible to laser-induced hair growth?

I don’t know if anyone can answer that question. From what I’ve read, laser may induce hair growth in other areas but there hasn’t been any documentation it might cause growth on the legs. Of course, I don’t know if there has been any extensive research on the subject, either.

Also, you are at an age where hair is still devoloping (did I read, 24?). So, if hair “returned” to previously lased areas, it might be because of the natural development of hair.

The leg area is not an area that is highly hormonal like the face, so that could be an explanation worth going with. Based on observation over a long period of time, I can’t recall one poster here on hairtell or other sites that complained about laser induced hair stimulation on their legs, but there has been an impressive and depressive number of posters that complain about this on the female face and neck, as well as for the male upper arms, shoulders and upper back.

I really think laser would be great on your legs if you use a good Yag laser with an experienced laser specialist.

As with other forms of hair removal (including waxing), laser may or may not result in permanent removal / reduction.

(Except for electrolysis, which DOES kill hair off permanently).

As far as I’ve heard (and unfortunately I don’t remember where I read this) apparently hair could come back as late as ten years after completion.

I don’t think anyone is sure about that ten years later thing. I would not blame LHR, but rather, would think that this is NEW hair waking up for the first time in follicles that were dormant. Many things can wake up dormant follicles from medications to genetic blueprint. Electrolysis and LASER cannot prevent future follicles from coming to life. Wish we could, but we can’t. We can only target growing hair whether it be with electrolysis or laser hair reduction. Electrolysis can affect any color of growing hair. Laser can only affect dark, thick growing hair well.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. Very helpful. How about chest and stomach hair?

Laser has pleased many to reduce hair on the chest and abdomen. It just needs to be carefully done by a competent laser specialist using the correct laser. I have not heard of induced hair stimulation from laser in these areas. I would go for it!

overtime it will grow back and you will still need to go back to your LHR, by the way it’s also the same with chest and stomach hair, new follicles will tend to grow and we cannot stop it from growing…

It may not grow back. It can be permanent. Your last statement is more correct. By new follicles, that means that follicles you were born with may activate and start growing a new hair. The follicles that were damaged with the heat of the laser light previously will not produce another hair.
