In the Louisiana Backwoods

Dear Any/All,

I am in desperate need of serious hair removal. I a Military man, and I just hate having this hair. I would consider myself well informed.
I was wondering if anyone can confidently recommend a louisiana electrolysis for beard removal?
Where I live these things aren’t popular and Ive never even heard of anyone trying electrolysis, especially a man.
In the long run i will probably purchase an Apilus Platinum and some schooling. Both my sisters and mother have a good deal of unwanted hair as well. And I would love to have my entire upper body cleared.
I am expecting teh beard alone to take a year at least and cost maybe $10,000.
Thanks for any/everything, jeremy

All you can do is call around, go to all the electrologists close to you and compare.

If you go to an accredited school, you still need LOTS of practice before you use an Apilus Platinum. It’s powerful and you can damage the skin if you don’t have proper instruction and skill. Students use this machine at various schools, but they are watched and mentored. You would never work on your own face with any machine/epilator. You need a professional electrologist to do this. So, see what is available to you in your area.

Have you considered laser hair reduction to at least get a certain percentage of the hair off? Are you even a candidate? Read the laser FaQ’s and see where you fit in this hair removal/reduction scene.

Permanent hair removal is not inexpensive or easy. You must be committed and can’t run out of money in the middle of a treatment plan. Plan this well and you should be very happy in the end.

  • What is your goal? Generally, if you’re a healthy male, you can’t get your entire beard removed since your body is consistently developing hair there due to testesterone. So you need to get your expectations set correctly first. If you’re finding it hard to shave and are left with a shadow, the situation can be improved by a LOT, getting you rid of irritation and shadow etc. But you probably won’t be able to get to a 100% removal mark, especially not in 12 months.

  • Military pays for laser hair removal for the beard if it’s very bothersome to you. You should do some research on this. I’ve known a few people who got it covered. Laser is the best option for coarse dense hair. Even if you decide to do your face, you should start with laser first to get as much as possible removed, and then finish with electrolysis to even things out.

  • Even professional electrologists don’t treat their own faces. And it would be a huge financial and time committment to learn electrology well enough to perform it correctly and without side effects and scarring yourself. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a LOT of spare time on your hands. With a military job, this would be pretty difficult.

  • For your body hair and the body hair of your sisters and mother, laser is the best option for all dark coarse hair. It’s not that expensive for smaller areas like bikini, underarms etc either at $100-150 per treatment. Lower legs are about $250-300. Please read the FAQs below to learn more.

Make sure you explore all options and get a good sense of what you can actually achieve before you jump into this.
