I'm taking the leap!

Hi all! I’ve been lurking here for well over a year. I noticed that I had more facial hair at about age 11 and I started to use nair on it. BIG MISTAKE! It became darker and coarser over time and at age 15 I began shaving my face (oh the horror). I’m now 21 and continue to shave EVERY SINGLE DAY! It has stopped me in many ways in my life because I’m absolutely horrified someone will notice (which I’m sure they do, it’s quite obvious even after shaving and makeup!). At first I was all about thelaser, but after reading many posts and doing a lot of research I decided it wasn’t for me. At that point I began looking in to and liking the idea of electrolysis. Something that really IS permanent! So, for the last year I’ve been researching, saving money, and working up the nerve to go. Today I called one place and set up a free consultation for next tuesday. She will leave some extra time to do a sample treatment. She is state certified and works out of her basement, which I have learned isn’t something to be afraid of! It’s just the first consultation but I plan on visiting at least 2 more that I’ve found. I live in a small area and am limited I have to drive at least 45 minutes to get to this woman, she’s the closest so far. She was wonderful on the phone. Very reassuring and made me feel comfortable so that’s a good start, but I will take the advice and try out more so I can compare.

I am going to take some before pictures and follow my progress. I’ll also keep track of my appointments, experiences, and progress and post it here so others can see how it’s going. I know I certainly appreciate that.

I had just a couple of questions. I currently exfoliate every other day and use a moisturizer at least once a day, but try to do morning and night. Is this too much or will this be a good amount (maybe not exfoliating right after an appointment!) I drink a lot of water as it is and stay away from soda for the most part so I think I’m ok there. I have aloe vera that I use quite often as it is so I’ll use that but I’ve also read to use tea tree oil and witch hazel, which is better and are they easy to find? Is neosporin one of the better things to use?

I’m really nervous but really excited. If anyone has any advice, I’m all ears!

Thanks for listening,
Savannah

I would avoid neosporin, but if you choose to use it, make sure to do a patch test, because many people are allergic to it (including myself) and it could give you weaping scars that you would blame on the electrolysis.

Witch hazel is fine and is widely available, and cheap.

I like Tea Tree Oil because it does all the things witch hazel does, and more. It will help you heal faster, and will keep you from having white bumps, as it will dissolve necrotic tissue and puss.

I am glad you were able to read up lots of posts here and find the answers to your questions. Isn’t that search feature great?!

Thanks, James! Now I just need to go get some tea tree oil and I think I will have all my ducks in a row! Just one more question. I have a very mild heart murmur that I was born with. Never caused any problem, doctors aren’t concerned. Just wondering if for any reason that would be a problem with electro? Maybe it’s a silly question, but I thought I’d ask anyway!
Thanks again,
Savannah

Its only silly when you have a question and don’t ask.

The only thing Electrologists are ever warned about is treating someone who has a pace maker. The truth is, I have heard people with pace makers have more trouble standing next to a microwave oven than electrolysis, (Lots of stories of people’s pacemakers skipping, or changing rhythm near the micro, no stories of such with electro) but theoretically speaking, the signal used in electrolysis could interfere with the pace maker and cause the rhythym to change as well. I just have not heard of even one occasion of this happening.

You will be fine.
