I'm only 22, and excess hair has ruined my life.

Hi, I’ve been browsing through Hairtell for a few years, and I finally registered recently. I don’t really know where to start. I’m a 22 year old male from India, and unfortunately I’ve been plagued with excess body and facial hair. No, I am not exaggerating, I have been told the same by many people. Often people mistaken me for a much older person. When I was about 17, I noticed that there was a sudden spike in hair growth throughout my body and face. I could grow a full, rough and coarse beard by 18. Unfortunately, that beard has just become more rough and coarse with time. Hair has started to develop on my shoulders as well. My upper back has a patch of hair, due to which I do not wear certain clothes, in order to avoid embarrassment. My chest is full of hair, and I do have a lot of hair around my belly button too. I don’t think I’ve gone swimming in the last 5 years. There are a lot of other limitations that I face due to having excess hair.

Finally, I have decided to take action. I want to find a permanent solution. I’ve read up on laser and electrolysis, but electrolysis seems more beneficial. There aren’t any reputed electrologists in my area. I am willing to travel a bit, that is not an issue for me. I’d just like to know how to proceed from here on? Your advice will be invaluable.

Hi Janaka,

Electrolysis is the only method which can guarantee a permanent hair removal for all areas, thus you choose the right way to remove permanently your hair !

Have you ever tried an electrologist in your area ? you could do a test in a little part of your body (a “patch” in the arm for example) in order to see if this electrologist do it the right way.
After just one session, you have to wait 2-3 mounts. If you see no reduction at all, this is no good.

If you wanted to travel for an electrolysis treatment, you just have to contact the electrologist of your choice and you will book an appointment.

Hi Janaka

Please do ignore Volumepro spam.
I like a lot of girls noticed hair on my upper lip as a teenager and removed with creams after advice from my mother.
This seemed to ease as I got older and went onto the pill.
I have no hair issues as an adult until I was 24 and fell pregnant with my 2nd child a daughter.
I started to get hairs around my nipples, I was ashamed to let my husband see this and plucked them. The DR told me it was normal even a year on after the birth.

I coped with the random nipple hairs until I was 28, my husband had snip and I came off the pill.
I then started to get my upper lip hairs back which didn’t bother me many women I know have this just removed i with cream again as I did as a teenager.
However when I spotted chin hairs OMG I was horrified, I went to Dr who wanted to put me back on pill but a much stronger dose.
I took the prescription and went home to look it up, the side effects were horrid and it stated that it came back 10 fold when you come off.
I didn’t want a few 2-3 random hairs to turn into a beard so panicked and started looking up online how other people cope.

I found this forum and like many was skeptical but I then looked up the UK official electrolyisis website and did my own research.

I am thankful to say that today I am 100% hair from around my nipples that was completed in around 9 months. My chin hairs are all but one, I have zero dark hairs I just get long blond ones under the chin cleared now when I go in for my upper lip which I only stared once my nipples were complete.
I would say upper lip is around 50% done it will be 2 years since I stared the journey at the end of August.

I am later this week going to France on holiday and it was 2 years ago that I went on the same holiday and make the decision on return to start the journey.
I is hard in the beginning leaving the hairs, get a pair of nail scissors honestly without them I don’t know if I would have come so far.

It is the only solution if you want rid of them for good a long journey but worth it in the end.
I shut myself away but now I have 2 beautiful dogs that I walk for at least an hour a day after work chatting with everyone I bump into and have become a member at a major gym company in UK where I am attending classes 4-5 times a week including swimming at least once a week.
I have stared highlighting my hair blonde every 6 weeks at salon something I had stopped and gone red at home because I was too scared they would see my hairs and comment.

If you find someone skilled enough they will give you back your life.
I always get my electrolysis a bunch of flowers at xmas and her b day with out her I don’t know what I would have been like too depressing to think.
You really do have to find someone that your able to trust and put faith in and allow yourself at least 9 months to see that things will improve, those that don’t succeed don’t stick with it for long enough or pluck in between.

I wish you luck x

Thank you for the responses! Okay, I’ll try to give you a few more details:

  1. Although I do have a lot of hair all over my body, I am mainly concerned about my rough and coarse beard. The beard is my first priority. I can grow a full beard in no time. I have been unable to shave for sometime, as it has become too tedious and repetitive. I have a lot of hair on my cheeks, as well as neck. My moustache is very dense, and even my chin has a lot of hair. I do want to get electrolysis on my beard, but at the same time I want to retain some amount of hair on my face. If I somehow manage to reduce the number of hairs in my beard by 50-60%, I will be extremely happy.

  2. If I go through with the process of electrolysis, I will be a little skeptical of the application of Lidocaine or other numbing substances on my face. I used to have a health issue, but thankfully it is under control now, due to medication. But I am still vary of the side effects that may occur as a result of this situation. I hope there is a solution for this. I do not mind undergoing electrolysis without any numbing substance, I have a high pain threshold. I can bear the pain, I have borne the pain of embarrassment for a few years now, and I’d be willing to bear a little more pain to solve my problem, so as to live freely.

  3. I’ve browsed extensively for electrologists in my area (India). Unfortunately, there are none who will be able to carry out such a huge task. As I stated earlier, I am willing to travel to find a good electrologist, who can help me out.

  4. I have mailed Josefa a few times. I haven’t heard back, but I do understand that she is extremely busy. I have seen her work, and it is impeccable. Yes, I am willing to travel to Spain, if need be. I was particularly interested in her after I saw this thread:

Amazing work. Exactly what I need. I can assure you that I do have more hair than that particular person.

Hope I can find a solution soon.

I have never once used numbing cream it’s not necessary for the beard, I did not find having chin hairs or nipple hairs removed painful at all.
However I do find the upper lip painful but bearable, you may want to start out on the chin and move onto the upper lip if like myself you don’t find that this hurts.

Janaka, I once had a client from India who, on a visit there had excellent treatment in Hydrabad. There were either four electrologists at this clinic or it was one of four branches. I know that India is a big country, but perhaps you are based there.

Hello C O’Connell. Thank you for your input. Could you give me some more details (If your client doesn’t mind)? Hyderabad is not far from where I am. Also, can I ask if the client is male or female? See, I ask this, because, in India, there are a lot of clinics that offer services exclusively to women. Also, clinics which offer practices such as electrolysis or other hair removal methods are not trustworthy here. That is a huge problem. Many of these businesses are set up without proper equipment or personnel, and their sole aim is to earn money. I know quite a few people who have had bad experiences at these place, and that is one of the reasons why I’m skeptical of such places. Even if there exists a good clinic, they will either refuse to accept me, based on the fact that I am a male or based on the fact that I have a lot of hair that I want to get rid of. Even if they do accept me, it will take an extremely long time, maybe 5+ years, to see results. Such hair removal practices are in their infancy at this stage in India. Of course I do hope that with time things will improve. This is why I’m leaning towards seeking the expertise of someone elsewhere.
