Hey Guys,
Im male of asian/middle eastern decent so light brown skin and dark black hair. I wanted area above my shaving region treated as i was getting lots of hair [generally after plucking them myself, they would be largely populated in within a week, been doing this for a few years now]
so finally went for electrolysis, i went for about 11 sessions, after which i noticed a few pits [large pores] so i stopped.
Machine being used was Apilus 1 i think, and the beautician [30 years experience] used the lowest heat setting as i told her i was very worried about getting scars.
anyway its been 2 months since my last session and already i noticed a few pits, since then i noticed another one today, just appeared out of no where, completely symmetrical, deepest one yet
The treatment did work and i think the hair that grows back now is 30% less but now im left with ugly pits. They are mostly on my right side of the face above the shaving region closer to the nose area.
I assume these are permanent, i did some research here and some user here consulted a doctor and got told that there might be a slight chance they might heal in 18 months?
Is laser surfacing my only option? i assume this has some drawbacks too ? and even after that im still left with my hair trouble
any suggestions?
Also if i was to continue this process, say in a years time with a different beautician, can they garuntee i wont get scars? Money is not an option, i could travel to the best out there even in the US but surely no one can garuntee no scars?
Dear Neo, I’m also a 30-year veteran of electrolysis. I’ve done your area many many times. Post-treatment enlarged pores often happens in the area you are concerned about. I actually have not figured out why this exact area does this. However, in all the cases (maybe 50+) the skin completely normalized.
Remember the skin stays swollen for MUCH longer than patients think. The skin overlying the bone is very thin. Maybe the inflammation stretches the pores a bit more (i.e., there’s no place for the tissue to stretch).
Furthermore, you say “around the nose.” That area usually has large sebaceous glands. When the skin is swollen around these “pores” the opening can appear much larger — almost like a tiny pit.
Our laser tech, Anita, did some kind of a laser thing on my face. (Sorry, I just don’t remember exactly what she did — we were having SO much fun, and I think we were drinking wine!) Anyway, nothing much happened, but my face got swollen and the pores looked WAY bigger — again from the swelling.
Seriously, I don’t know; I’m guessing. The only thing I’m certain about is that this condition goes away — slowly — and takes a year. One day you will simply notice that it’s all gone. Hope this helps.
At least give it time to resolve before assaulting the area with anything too aggressive.
Hey Micheal,
Sorry i meant: they are on my cheek, closer to the nose area. Not actually on my nose.
See this picture for example: http://concealapore.biz/images/first_pic_11-2-08.jpg
[note this is not actually me ]
But its a good indication of the type of pits [maybe not so stale and big, but indeed similar and many more]
I do have ‘natural’ pores in this area, but these are noticeable pits. So are you saying they will heal over time?
no, I knew the area you are talking about. Did I say “on your nose?” I must be losing it! YES “cheek” and closer to the eye, above the “approved” beard line — that’s the area.
I don’t think is a matter of healing, it’s a matter the the inflammation process resolving. I think you are going to be just fine.
The photo, by the way, looks like “ice pick” contraction scars. These happen with acne. These are rare in electrolysis, but it can happen. (But you need one hell of an overtreatment for this to develop, and it sounds like you didn’t get that.) Again: “Tranquillo!” (Chill out!)
Could you post a QUALITY picture of YOUR face, neo? Could you tell us about your electrolysis experience? No detail is too small.
I agree with Bono that you need to be severely overtreated to get a long term dent like the picture you submitted of someone else. Can we see YOUR skin?
Hey Neo. That’s the exact area that I want to have electrolysis on in the future. A friend of mine also treated that area and I can see the same thing on his face that you are describing here. It was probably a few months ago since he had his last treatments and I may be wrong but I can see a very slow decrease in those ‘pits’ becoming smaller but I can notice it. Correct me if I’m wrong but they look like dark little dots up close?
Needless to say this is the same thing I’m worried about. That is the LAST place that I would want permanent scars on. Hopefully you will be okay. Good luck.
How do you know these are pits caused by electrolysis as opposed to enlarged pores that look even bigger now that the hair has been removed from the scene?
We really need quality pictures here.
