If Laser Induces Hair Growth, Then What?

Hi,

If I’ve had laser on my upper arms and shoulders and it induces hair growth (I now know these areas are sensitive to laser), what should a person do to rid themselves of hair there? --will more laser sessions eventually kill the hair and make it permanently bare or will more laser sessions make it worse?

I know electrolysis is likely the better option, but more expensive and time consuming/painful so if laser is still an option, I would consider it.

As you might know, laser can not provide a permanent hair removal. Moreover in some areas like shoulders, upper arms and back, the heat of laser can stimulate some vellus hair and induce a paradoxical hair growth.

In this case the better option will be treating these areas with electrolysis hair removal.

The treated areas can be numbed with EMLA cream to reduce the pain.

I’m also curious about this. From looking at these areas on myself all I can see is terminal hair (I’m NOT an expert, its just my guess). It may be from age or an effect from my earlier laser treatment, but if I end up not finding an electrologist, can I assume that laser can’t really make it worse at this point? Or can it make terminal hair even thicker somehow?

Ah, now adrien… I must humbly disagree with this statement. Skilled laser hair removal can indeed provide permanent hair reduction, but it is a gamble for some areas. Some people may get 30% reduction (permanently) and some may obtain 60% or even 95% (permanently). It can be a gamble.

YES! I agree. This area is vulnerable to laser hair stimulation more times than I care to report, sorry to say. If it happens to you, you can do more laser, but if the hair structures get to thin or too light, all ya got is good old, steady friend, electrolysis.
