I am skin type III-IV (Hispanic) and had my back and shoulders done with the Palomar Starlux 500. I have done two sessions, 4 weeks apart. Since my first session, It has been 6 weeks total. Before hearing about this website, I did not know the difference between IPL and Lasers. Funny thing is I can see a huge diffence. I have a small Tattoo on my back about 4"x1"and still has hair while the rest of my back is quite clean. The only problem I have noticed is I brake-out quite a bit. Is this normal? Is it due to shaving before my IPL session?
I know it is way to early to tell about actual results but I feel great knowing I have options. If I would of known that laser was better, I would have done so. Oh well, live and learn.
I don’t understand. How can you have 2 sessions 4 weeks apart AND wait 6 weeks since your first session? Please clarify.
Regardless, those treatments are too close togetehr which is partly why it’s hard to tell if anything is going on besides burning of the hair. You’re not letting it grow out before getting another treatment. This area shouldn’t require treatments more often than 8-12 weeks apart.
Are you seeing shedding of all treated hair after 3 weeks? That’s important. If you are like you’re supposed to, you shouldn’t have anything new come in yet to treat again at only 4 weeks.
I have had 2 sessions done. the first on 02-18-09, the second on 03-19-09. Hair has not grown on my back with the exception of my tatto area. NO HAIR GROWING. Should I request to have it done 8 weeks apart? I though hair cycles grew approximately 4-6 weeks apart?
Did the hair shed? You should see hair fall out, or be able to pull it out without resistance, 2-3 weeks after the treatment.
You should not have any treatments on areas with no hair. So you should wait until there is enough hair to treat. If treatments are good, this won’t happen until 8-12 weeks on this area due to hair cycles. 4 weeks is never the case for any area. Only face may require treatments only 6 weeks apart, and even that’s rare.
Can someone explain why laser kills the hair and Starlux 500 does not?
…by the way, I am being treated with the LuxR device for the Starlux 500
Did you read the FAQs in the link under my posts? Please do. It’s explained how both IPLs and lasers work.
I am sorry if I am Frustrating you lagirl, I am new to the site and have searched in this website and have not found any clear information in regards to the Starlux 500. I assume it is because it is relatively a new IPL machine and not many people have actualy used it.
I guess all I want to know is how effective it is compared to all other IPL’s and NOT LASERS( The old technology IPL vs. NEW IPL)if you know what I mean.
It’s not new. It’s standard IPL technology by Palomar. They make some of the better IPLs, but they’re still IPLs and are inferior to laser in terms of result they can provide.
There are tons of various IPLs and they don’t vary significantly. You’re not going to find every one addressed here in a thread, but we do have a running list of all the models on the market in the sticky posts.
My main concern on this forum is providing information on getting the BEST results possible. IPLs can’t do that, so I don’t recommend them. It’s possible to get some results with them - you’re just not going to get the best for your money. I just don’t believe in spending money on something inferior especially when you’re spending a lot of it and it costs the same to get treatments by a better machine.
Hi!I’m new on this website. Since it was posted about IPL, I will take advantage to ask if sb can advice me about the cost-efficiency of this treatment. I’ve read the posting about laser faq and understand that this subject is subtle. But right now, I received an offer for 6 sessions using IPL palomar for 100$(regular price 360$) and I’m asking myself if it’s worth my money? Thank you.
Whether $100 is a good price depends on what area you’re treating. Just because they said $360 is their regular price doesn’t mean that that price is real. There is a good chance they give “discounts” to everyone to make you feel like you got a deal.
Don’t jump at any “deals”. There are tons of clinics around and deals come and go all the time. Instead, focus on finding a good clinic with the right machine and experience in order to actually get results. $100 for a bad treatment is still $100 wasted.
