I guess I should give up

I have been going to electrolysis for five years and still have to go every three to ten days for upper lip. Chin and eyebrows are still getting done too but not as often. Think I should just call it quits? Very frustrating. I hate to have to use a razor on my face especially after all this time. Thanks for any feedback.

You need to give more details about your treatment history for someone to be able to assess the situation.

Sex/Age? You treated your upper lip for 5 years every 3-10 days without skipping a session?
How much time per session? How much time does it take to complete a clearance? Over the past 5 years by how much time did your overall sessions decrease or did the session time to clear areas not decrease at all? Do you ever tweeze or wax the areas?
Were the areas treated by the same electrologist or you changed them?

Those are all the exact same questions I have for you.

Along with is the electrologist getting a clean release of the hair, or are they plucking?

I’m a 61 yr old female. I have not skipped sessions. The sessions are 15 minutes long. I have not waxed or plucked at all. I have had the same electrolysis.

No plucking at all by either of us. She thought maybe I was having a hormonal issue but my gyne said not to bother with hormone level tests. My doc said electrolysis just doesn’t work for everyone. My electrolysis is totally stumped. The hair has lessened considerably but still quite a bit grows back.

Sounds like the doc is down on electrolysis. What is the harm in getting your hormones checked?

Ditto.

I’m equally dismayed at your doctors reaction. Electrolysis improves skin quality overall.

HAir gets stimulated in one of several ways:
testosterone in the system .
Plucking waxing, threading.
Genetic Predisposition.
hormonal medications, including birth control, anxiety meds, IUDs and several others.

Which method of stimulating the hair is happening to you?

It’s possibe your electrologist has a poor kill rate. Is she getting a good release of the hair with no resistance? If not, then this is a good reason to try someone else. It’s the same as stimulating through plucking. What i can hands down say, is electrolysis works, so if you are not seeing results after that many sessions, then it’s a good indication something is wrong.Pictures, and a description of how much you started with, might be a good way to get at the crucial aspect that you are missing.

Seana

Doc didn’t want to do hormone test because she says she won’t give hormone therapy regardless of what tests reveal.
Electrolysis has a good reputation. Thinks maybe I have strange growth spurts and should wait longer between treatments.

Thank you for all your feedback.

wow, not a good doctor.Blood tests are a basic diagnostic tool.Ignoring them because ypou dont wnt to administer hrt, is highly irresponsible

I don’t want to second guess the doctor because she / he can see the patient and knows more than we know about patient’s medical history.

If you think your doctor is not the best for you, find another doctor, that is, if you are FREE to choose another doctor.

IMHO, you need to see a dermatologist and/or an endocrinologist. You may not
need to add HRT but you may need to block testosterone. Not every doctor knows everything and this situation is out of your gyn’s league!

After the lab tests are done, you may try taking ‘saw palmetto’ (in a standardized
extract) which can be purchased OTC. It just may help.
