Hypopigmentation after laser treatment burns (photo)

Hello. I need ur support and advice please. Last year december I had burn my half legs when I went to do laser. My legs looks so terrible. Im applying E vitamin. Yesterday I was searching about hypopigmentation and found this forum. I was so glad seeing that most girls left behind finally this scars. I read that better dont get tanned for 1 year. But I went 1 time to tan for sure maybe for 1 hr. Now Im so afraid what if it will be now permanent scar
Please can u advice me if its ok if I tanned one time?

Its how looks my legs right now after 2 month

Im so sorry that Im loading everything separate. Im new user. Im so sad for what happened with me. Cant wear short or skirts. All the time hiding my legs, and trying dont show my legs to anyone

Dont worry dear Unastella. It will take about a year. But in the end it will disappear and the skin will be smooth, without scars. For me it took 14 months. What helped, is exposure to the sun after a year. I went on vacation in Greece and came back from there unscathed. But for a whole year I kept the skin from the sun.

my dear, if I went to the pool to tan for 1 hr like month ago, is it not dangerous now? Im afraid what if it will become permanent scar :see_no_evil: Oh I wish, I read all comments and now I have hope that it will go away one day :pray:t3:

I do not think it’s dangerous. After it’s happened to me, i started to learn about this, and i found a lot of people that it happened to them. Good news - it’s gone for everyone. Bad news - it just took time. The skin needs to start producing pigment, again, which is a very long process. About a year.

thank you so much :pray:t3::pray:t3::pray:t3:

Hi all,

This is my leg September 2021 after healing from a first degree burn on June 2021.

I got mixed advice from doctors - someone said the melanocytes were killed and the site will not heal by itself and that I might see results with UVB phototherapy. Another person said it will take around a year or longer to heal by itself and to stay out of the sun.

I have not tried UVB phototherapy out of fear of the process going wrong. In 2021 I tried to stay out of the sun as much as possible. But since 2022 I stopped taking as much care, and been wearing shorts while in the sun without sunscreen. When I remember I massage moisturiser into it.

This is 10 months after on April 2022.

It has gotten slightly better (if I look closely I can see more pigmented spots) but overall it still looks the same. It has been almost been a year so sometimes I get discouraged but seeing all these results I have faith to just give it time.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

It is definitely looking better! Silicone sheets can help. It does look as if the melanocytes in places have been damaged. I am sure light therapy sounds scary, and I would only do it with a dermatologist, but it does help some people with your skin tone.

Thank you so much for the update… This gives me a lot of hope… Even I have got laser induced hypopigmentation over my forearm and legs and it’s been three weeks now… I am trying tacrolimus ointment at night and a lot of moisturizer and sunscreen at present. It’s such a mental torture to see my skin ruined after spending lots of money for hair reduction. After reading your updates i have got a ray of hope🥺

Hello Bono,
I am looking into taking legal action for this same issue. I have well documented images of my hair stimulation progression at every stage of the laser. I also have a clear understanding the improper technique was used because they switched technique (originally used device head intended for body on my face at low settings 7 joules – then switched to proper head). I would like to please ask you for any information for this case, I have such difficulty trying to find information on lawsuits for paradoxical growth. It would help me tremendously.

A lot depends on where you live. If you were in my City in California, you could easily find an attorney who would take your case on contingency (you pay nothing and they get … usually … half of the settlement). Frankly, just the threat of a lawsuit here translates into an immediate settlement. You don’t need to do the research yourself. Just present your injury to the attorney, and they will do the rest; it’s their job. Indeed, a personal injury attorney will do it for you … and “clean their plow!” (A southern term).

Furthermore, do not disregard the psychological ramifications that you ARE suffering. Have these dreadful issues documented NOW with a licensed therapist … you need only one appointment to document the date and the objective opinion of an expert.

Depending on your age, occupation and a number of other factors; yours could become a landmark case and … were it here in Santa Barbara (with Denis Merenbach) … in the millions of dollars. Money WILL make you happier.

I am in Orange County CA, so close but so far! I am faithful and optimistic in my case, especially after reading your message and this beautiful woman’s success story. I am TRULY SUFFERING

Okay … OC is perfect! LOTS of beauty procedures and thus lots of lawyers. Nice!

Hello, i found this forum while looking for a solution for my laser induced hypopigmentation. I’m glad to know those who had the same experience got it improved over time.
I’ve had this unfortunate experience from a dermatologist during the seventh session of my LHR.

I sustained second degree burns all over my legs and right forearm.
And the most ridiculous part was that the Dermatologist who did this tried trivialising my situation saying these are minor side effects of laser and it’ll go within a year! Unfortunately I’m from India and there no strong laws to sue these type of doctors as it’s a cosmetic procedure. All i could do was cut all ties with the clinic and consult other dermatologists. This incident occurred almost three months back. I was prescribed tacrolimus ointment as it is thought to cause repigmentation. I tried it for one and half month but couldn’t find any improvement. Later i consulted another dermatologist and was prescribed tretinoin 0.1% gel. I’m applying this since 3 weeks and have got a lot of skin peeling. Now the hypopigmented patches look a bit improved.

Also i had been to this stupid dermatologist again as I had uneven hair growth on the normal skin surrounding hypopigmentation, since i was embarassed to go to some other clinic or medspa to get it done, i decided to go to the same clinic. The residual hair growth areas were marked using a black marker pen by this dermatologist and laser was performed over it, after reaching home i realised I sustained burns again over these marked areas. I was so shattered and i can say choosing this dermatologist with no experience was the worst decision i took in my life! Now i got hypopigmentation over my skin wherever a marker pen was used!

This incident occurred on June 6th 2022 and July 19th 2022.
It’s almost three months and the dermatologists i met said it ll improve in 6 months to one year. The last dermatologist i consulted said these are not just hypopigmentation but scars and ll be difficult to cure. Nevertheless he prescribed tretinoin 0.1% gel for application at night along with a moisturising oil to apply during day time.
There’s been some improvement after applying tretinoin as my tanned skin got peeled and the colour contrast has improved. Now my hypopigmentation looks less noticeable. Still I’m waiting for further improvement as most of the doctors asked to wait upto a year.
This is today’s pic of my forearm

I have heard the term “Tigering” for the post-op laser marks you are showing. Like a Tiger there are laser-induced stripes … I hope this all resolves for you … but I do not do laser myself and thus someone else must help you on this issue. Please tell me that the laser tech didn’t just laser on the black marks he had drawn!!

On another (old) issue, a disgruntled electrology client is now threatening physical harm against one of our colleagues. The damage that was allegedly sustained (unlike yours) is impossible to see and most likely only exists in the mind of the client. Although rare, client/therapist interactions can sometimes become extreme and dangerous. Nicely, you are going about this in a methodical way and I commend you for that stance. Best Wishes.

Thank you for the reply.
I shall put up my treatment history here.
The type of laser used was ‘vikini’ diode 808 nm and i had to pay a huge amount as fees since i chose a certified dermatologist to do this job. But I was stupid enough to choose a dermatologist without experience to get LHR done on my body. It was my 7th session and the Dermatologist changed the usual FDP mode to a DP mode with frequency kept at 14hz (usually FDP mode with frequency 6-7hz was used for all 6 sessions on me) the legs were done first and after reaching home i noticed i had sustained burns and the next day i had formed brown scabs like train tracks. Even after showing my legs were burnt the dermatologist continued with the same mode and energy on my forearm. It was exceptionally painful over my right forearm and after informing they reduced the frequency for left forearm. As a result I sustained second degree burns only on right forearm. And yes what you see in the pics as black lines are those areas where she used a black marker pen to mark residual hair growth and yes they performed laser over those marked areas and i have formed scars as you can see in the pics. It was a total disaster choosing that douchebag as my dermatologist for performing laser. I’m scarred for life i feel. And I’m so depressed that now i have replaced my wardrobe with all full sleeve dresses and full pants as I feel so much insecure about my skin now.
