Hyperpigmentation?

It’s been 1 week since my first treatment. I did brazilian and underarms. Just on a small area, right at the top of my thights (so the very oustide of the brazilian area), on both sides, there is some - what I believe to be - hyperpigmentation. The skin is kind of a dark red/purplish color. Similar to how the ingrown hairs I used to get left the skin looking after they scarred. I’m just noticing this now because all the other redness has completely faded, and this is what is left.

Should I be concerned about this? I tried searching hyperpigmentation, but couldn’t seem to find anything useful or relative to my situation.

Btw, my clinic told me that IF hyperpigmentation happened, which it probably wouldn’t, they would just prescribe bleaching cream and that would take care of it. Any thoughts on that?

It should fade naturally on it’s own, but that can take months. I can’t go back over 30 posts you have written, but will ask you about the color of your skin and the type of laser you are using. I assume you researched this well before you chose, since you had a small area done initially. That was smart of you, though some laser clinics don’t think much of doing that.

Creams help speed up the fading process. Glycol peels help for serious hyperpig. There is a large thread on hyperpigmentation and what can be done if you choose not to let it fade naturally. I’ll look for it.

Okay, I’m back. There are lots of discussions on hyperpig, but here are some articles for you to peruse:

Thanks so much for the help - I’m about a type III - type IV overall, I think, but am very pale in the areas I got done, and have never burned there. The hair is very course/black.

The laser is a GentleLASE, and I didn’t show very much “irritation” from it anywhere else. A little bit of redness, hardly any raised hair follicles even. No burning/blistering at all, of course. I am experiencing really good shedding though at just 8 days.

Thanks for the link, also!

What settings did they use? Can you find out and maybe one of our laser contributors can comment on that part. The part that I question about here is the type of laser being used, but the shedding part sounds hopeful. Type III -IV skin color for a GentleLase… hmmm.

I called about the settings and was asked to wait until she had the chart in front of her at our touch up, which will be next Saturday. Kind of annoying, but not too long of a wait anyway. I think I may have even tested as a Type II on the actual quiz I was given at the clinic. I just had rated myself a III-IV based on the criteria posted here on the forum. I’ll check on that and make sure also. I’m not all that dark, it’s just that I am 1/4 Japanese.

No problem in 90% of the area treated, though. Of course it would have been nice to have no problem at all.

Btw, I am “denied access” to the link provided. :frowning:

Okay. Well, just wait until next Sunday. Type II and GentleLase work and you seem to be pleased with the shedding, so it sounds like you have little to worry about.

Okay, I finally found out the settings today at my (Delayed) touch up.

18 joules and 15 spot size. That was used the first time, as well as this time for the touch up. She didn’t change the settings, because she thought that the hyperpigmentation might have been due to me not getting all the cream off in the areas in occurred, since it really only happened in two really small places, about 5% of total areas done between brazilian and underarms.

Anyway, the hyperpigmentation had faded about 85% I would say by this time also.

Any new thoughts on this?
