How to self record a video while working (handsfree)?

I’m a newbie for making a video recording. I’m looking to buy a camera, GoPro or Smartphone, probably with head strap, but unsure of what should I get. So I’m looking for recommendation or some advice.

I have my own YouTube channel (Beauty Electrolysis Laser - YouTube) but with one video I hired someone to record me ages ago.

How can I record a video while I’m working? Is a macro lens or something needed so that hair follicles can be clearly seen on video. I want to be able to record it myself while working.

Distance between lens and recorded object of around 35-40 cm

Thank u,
Nora

I asked a willing client to hold my phone recording video while I worked :joy_cat: a bit awkward for a while, but we got what I needed in the end.

GoPros are great for wide-angle, action-packed shots, but for detailed work like this, they might not give you the clarity you need.

Smartphones like the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy with a macro lens accessory (like those from Moment or Sandmarc) would work well for the 35-40 cm distance you mentioned.

For hands-free recording, a head strap might not give the stability or angle you want for close-ups. A desk-mounted adjustable arm or tripod with a smartphone holder could work better—it’ll keep the shot steady and allow you to adjust angles easily while you work.

Once you’ve recorded, editing your footage to highlight the fine details can make a big difference. If you’re on a Mac, here’s a list of free editing tools that might help: https://www.movavi.com/learning-portal/free-video-editing-software-for-mac.html.
