How slow does hair grow after laser HR session ?

Hi,

I read in one of the posts here in HAIRTELL that laser slows the growth of hair for up to one year. I also read (somewhere else) that the hair growth cycle is shorter or longer depending on body part - legs, underarms, genitals.

So, if a person HYPOTHETICALLY has JUST ONE laser hair removal treatment and never again has another one ... :
  1. If laser only destroys hairs that are in the anagen phase, DOES laser affect hairs that are in the CATAGEN and TELOGEN phase ?
  • If yes: HOW does it affect the follicle and the hair ?

  • Is the laser’s influence on catagen/telogen HAIR and FOLLICLE permanent or temporary - e.g. will thin hairs that grow after LHR become as thick as they previously were ?

  • Does a hairless patch mean that there might be hairs in the catagen/telogen phase OR that new follicles will grow ?

  1. If “after” all the hair that was supposed to come back the person SHAVES or TRIMMS that hair (that had been previously exposed to 1 LHR session)…
  • Will that hair ALSO BE SLOW TO GROW BACK, i.e. will those hairs take the same amount of time (7 months, 1 year, etc) it took after Laser Hair Removal OR will the time between each hair cycle growth return to what it was BEFORE Laser Hair Removal (provided the person shaves/trimms)?

Thank you and I appreciate your answers.

  • Laser doesn’t slow down hair growth. If the treatment is done properly on the right type of hair, the hair is permanently damaged. If settings are too low, it can shed, but not be damaged permanently. Sometimes, this is reported after IPL treatments

  • Laser targets hair in anagen. That’s why it’s important to keep your treatments on schedule

  • Shaving or trimming doesn’t impact the hair whatsoever. Only removal with the root does anything to the hair.
