How much scabbing is normal?

Hi,

I have been doing thermolysis around my nipples for about a month now (4 treatments) but it takes a really long time to heal compared to my upper lip. I still have marks from weeks ago and I’m worried that it is scarring. Does this area generally take longer to heal than the upper lip? I’m not sure if I should ask my electrologist to turn down the settings or if this is a normal part of the process.

She also said that she still uses her thermolysis machine from 30 years ago because she finds it gives the best results over her blend machine. Are newer machines better? Or would an older machine be just fine to use?

Yes, you “got that right” 100%!

Long-lasting post-electrology marks on that area are common, but will go away. In plastic surgery (breast augmentation) “going through the nipple” requires a very skilled surgeon so that the area does not develop visible scars. About 2-months ago, we did a revision on a good friend that has scars from a previous surgery (“scar revision”).

Everything depends on the skill of the operator, her machine is just fine. If she likes it and is getting positive results, well, that’s good enough for me.

Thanks for the info. How long does it typically take for the marks to disappear?? It has been over 5 weeks and I can still see every single place she inserted the needle. It’s almost worse than having the hair! I’m so worried they aren’t going to go away

Do the “holes” where the hair used to be ever fill back in and look like smooth skin?

I would love to hear about other people’s experiences as well as how long it took them to heal. I’m not sure if it’s the skin, setting, skill, or method being used - should I switch from thermolysis to the blend?

I don’t know about “holes,” but the spots at the nipples can last a comparatively long time.

Over the years I have seen a lot of odd “Oh My God” anomalies on that area; but in all cases everything returned to normal … actually “better than normal.”

I don’t think I would worry too much about this.

A very lovely woman from another country has sent me photos that I’m now working on for a video … this visual rendering might help you allay your fears.

Thank you for your response! The “holes” I’m referring to look like the hair follicle shaft has been clogged with a light colored substance. While it’s not horribly noticeable to others, it doesn’t look like smooth skin. You can tell where the follicle used to be. I’ve seen other people on this forum mention it as well but no one has explained what it is or if it’s a normal part of the healing process in that area. Do you know what I’m referring to?

Yes I do … just some “gunk.”

“Holes” - Wound contraction? If the hairs around the nipples are very deep routed, the wounds necessarily caused by electrolysis might become comparatively large and therefore it’ll take longer until the visible marks appear.

And then: machine, time/intensity and probe size have of course a noticeable impact.

But as long as it heals reliably in a resonable time, everything is ok.
