How many joules are needed?

Anyone know how many joules are needed with ipl to disable the hair?

One diamond, two sapphires and three rubies?

All seriousness aside … don’t expect to get permanent results from an IPL. Not happening!

Wouldnt expect permanent results from any machine, but 3-4months of smooth skin beats waxing! Only reason i asked is i used an ipl machine at its max setting 29joules and was unsure if this was enough, as many have a lot more power

There aren’t any …

There are a few clients on this board that have had appropriate results from laser hair removal and a couple have become pretty good at both "testimony’ and "recommendations.’ However, there are ZERO laser or IPL professional operators here … none.

By contrast, there are lots of electrologists on this board … helping clients … sharing information … squabbling over nonsense … and generally doing what electrologists have been doing for the last 100 years or so. Oh yeah, also removing hairs permanently; let’s not forget that.

I don’t think you are going to get any data on power settings on IPL machines … so far "silence’ on Hairtell, and I think you’d be better off doing the research on the internet yourself. Good Luck!

Joules do not measure power. Joules measure the intensity. You have to multiply the signal by time (actually integrate over time) in order to obtain the power. The timing is usually not adjustable in the hair removal machines. But anyway: Joule values of different machines can not be compared unless You know about the timing.

So Your question cannot be answered. But going to the maximum the skin can be treated with is more or less mandatory in order to achieve results (and often enough not sufficient).

BTW: I have had treatments with both IPL and electrolysis, bot good and bad ones, and i have considered going professional with IPL, even digged into the underlying physics.

I decided to do electrolysis because i wanted to achieve results.

I used a home IPL device regularly for almost half a year. There was no permanent effect at all. I have detailed it in the “Do-It-Yourself Laser/IPL” section on this forum.

Hair growth will be slowed while treating yourself, but if you’re hairy to begin with that only means slightly less stubble than usual. Not worth the considerable amount of work that treating yourself is IMO.
