The laser section has an FAQ and I was wondering if maybe someone would be kind enough to put one in for electrolysis. I have tried searching and I could not find answers to some basic questions. I am sure they are in the forum somewhere but it would be nice to concentrate them in one area. I would like to see questions answered such as
How many hairs can be treated in an hour session? how many of those hairs can be expected to grow back ?
What are the different machines used for electrolysis and what are their advantages and disadvantages?

All of these questions have been answered here in deep detail. If I were a new registrant to hairtell, I wouldn’t have the time to go fishing for all the answers and I do agree with you that a Faq’s is needed to put this all in one place. I will answer these questions tomorrow when I have a break in my day. If you can be patient until then… or if someone else can do it sooner, that would be great.
Okay, here we go. By the way, the American Electrology Association has a faq’s on their website. You can see it in the consumer section at www.electrology.com What I offer here is MY opinion in more detail , so keep that in mind when you are reading.
How many hairs can be treated in an hour session? This varies by modality and practitioner. A very good, but very slow modality called galvanic electrolysis will yield less hair removed per hour (S-l-o-w) than the fastest forms of thermolysis. I prefer using the faster modes of thermolysis where a hair is treated in less than a second and then you move on to the next hair. I can remove about 400-500 hairs per hour if I am involved in a more challenging area and up to 700-900 hairs per hour if I am involved in a less challenging area where I can sail through at good speed. Some electrologists go faster than me and some are slower than me. Another good modality is called Blend electrolysis. That modality requires about 8-10 seconds on average to do one hair. So skill and modality choice determine how many hairs per hour. That is why we recommend that you get several consults so you can compare.
how many of those hairs can be expected to grow back ? I don’t know? It depends on if the hair was treated with enough intensity and time when it was in the growth phase as oppose to the shedding phase. It depends on the skill of the electrologist with her/his insertions? Just know, a certain percentage will return because of these different variables. That’s why you stay on a schedule after your first,full clearance to get those new baby hairs that are fragile. They succumb easier than the sturdily rooted coarse hairs that may need to broken down over a year.

There are several great companies that offer great machines. I prefer, at this time, the Apilus Platinum. I use PicoFlash thermolysis, and other modes of thermolysis (Synchro)and I tap into the blend modes as well, as needed. I prefer the newer epilators because one can remove hair faster, the energy can be controlled to the minute levels needed, sensation is better and skin condition is much, much better. Don’t rely only on what I say, as there are other practitioners who use other brands that do a fantastic job as well. Vision wear is important, too. The electrologist needs to see well, so she can move faster.
Explanation of “first clearance” In the beginning, all offensive hair, no matter what stage of growth, has to be removed asap. Put the time in to do this - GET THAT FULL CLEARANCE. Thereafter, any new hair that emerges will most likely be in the growth phase, the phase we need to destroy the hair.
4.How many times does an area generally have to be treated. Several times because new hair keeps cycling in over the months. It takes a minimum of 9-12 months for every offensive hair to come to the surface just one time. You are not seeing the same hair every time you have new hair come to the surface. Every time you get an area cleared, the percentage of hairs in an area is reduced.Eventually, you run out of hair follicles to treat because this is permanent hair removal. Some larger hairs may need 2-3 passes over time to break them down.
