I see all these people on here talk about how electrolysis takes alot of hours, i dont understand why it takes so long? if i have 20 hairs i want removed that shouldnt take more than 2-3 half hour sessions right? or does electrolysis induce/cause more hair growth so you have to keep going to get hair zapped again?
neither. What you see is only a portion of the hairs present, the rest would be out of growth cycle. So yes , it mighttkake only a few minutes to dispatch 20 hairs, but you will see morre in 2-3 months. This isnt regrowth, jsut out of cycle hairs. IT takes more sessions spread over time so you can catch these hirs at the right time.

20 hairs shouldn’t take many hours, though.
It should take several (3-6?) very short sessions, spaced out over a year to a year and a half, if I understand correctly.
exactly skydivingjess. The other factor, is the hairs that the electrologist can see are often more than what the client can. So maybe the 20 hairs they think they have is more like 150
I’m a little confused, what will i see more in 2-3 months? hair in the same spot?
i have around 4-5 stray hairs on my shoulder which im probably gonna use as a ‘test’ area to see how good electrolysis works.
Alright let me explain then.
First let me tell you that the 5 hairs you see on your shoulder right now, can be treated in one session. But there are some hairs that the not showing at the surface right now. Some that have recently shed, and have not grown to the surface yet. These will show up some days/weeks in the future. Some clients, wlll swear " I know that hair! You removed it two months ago! It’s the same place I swear I recognize the follicle!"
Fact is, it isnt the same hair, because i all likelihood it is dead from the first treatment… And there are thousands of hair follicles per square inch of skin on the human body in places.
The other aspect I was getting at, is electrologists look at your skin with high magnification, and they see things that you do not. You may look and see five hairs, but the eletrologist can look and see the other 50 early anogen hairs that will become a problem a little later on. So now you are treating 55 hairs instead of 5.
What Jess said is 100% correct, it will take a year or so to kill off all of those “5 hairs” just because all of the hairs have not gone through their lifecycle . You might kill 5 now, 3 more in 3 months or so, then 2 and 2 again and then a single hair all 3 months apart.
Yes, if an electrologist is not using enough treatment energy, or correct insertions then it’s possible you MAY actually see some of the hairs treated more than once. But done properly, electrolysis “works” 100% of the time.
I had a new client come in because she had 1 hair under her arm that was driving her nuts after she had them lasered years ago. I did 84 hairs in that session with her husband standing in awe over my shoulder.
I haven’t had her come in again since, but the husband had been back for work a couple more times and she’s pretty happy now, but she never expected there to be that many.
You can expect it to take at least 6 months for every hair you have to come in at least once… and those are just for the hairs that are activated. As you age, testosterone will probably trigger more that are NEW hairs that never grew before, it’s just that the follicle finally became activated, but that’s human physiology, not a problem caused by electrolysis.
I’ve got clients that had their facial hair removed before I was born, only for them to come in now, saying “I had electrolysis 40 years ago when I was in my 20s and now it’s growing back on my chin…” It’s not growing back, just an effect of menopause triggering new growth.
ahh okay i understand a little more now thanks for explaining.
